In December of 2021 I leased a Leaf from Nissan of Sacramento. I'd never leased before, but had reached a point in my life where leasing made more sense than buying. I was also very interested in going electric, but didn't (and still don't) want to fully commit to any particular car while the technology continues to advance so rapidly. While my 36 month lease was not going to officially end until December of 2024, I received mail from Nissan suggesting that I should stop by the dealership and look for my next car. It seemed like a good idea to get ahead of the game and I figured I'd find out what they had, get some numbers and maybe comparison shop. Well, in hindsight, I should have seen it coming, but I wasn't prepared for them to be ready for me to do exactly that and make me a MUCH better offer on the spot than I had been anticipating for something I could drive home immediately (OK, actually the next day, but you get my point!). When I showed up without an appointment, I met Carlos, who listened to me when I told him what I was looking for, never pressured me or made me feel like he was more interested in his commission than anything else. Within what felt like just a few minutes, he told me that rather than wait to be able to get a 2025 model in December, I should just trade my car in for a steeply discounted 2024 model that day. The thought had never occurred to me until that point, but when it was all said and done I signed a lease for a top of the line 2024 Leaf (with some very nice additional features that were not on my 2022) for a mere $30/month more than I had previously been paying. For various reasons, I had been expecting to pay a LOT more than that. Could I have gotten a similar or better deal had I comparison shopped? I have no idea, but I'm very, *very* happy with how this worked out. I wound up with a nicer, newer car for less money than expected and the entire experience of making the trade was completely free of stress or hassle. I should also mention that my prior experience at the end of 2021 was also completely positive. I dealt with Robert that time (he was off the day I went in and met Carlos), who also never pressured me, listened to what I was looking for and made a deal I was very happy with. Lastly, while I have only had the 2024 Leaf for a few days now, I've found it a joy to drive. That's not surprising, given that I was very happy for the entirety of the almost three years I drove the 2022 model. During the time I had that car, I had exactly *one* issue with it: I wound up getting a screw in my tire, which then had to be repaired. Of course, that's not Nissan's fault! It's an incredibly reliable vehicle made even better by the convenience of being able to "fill the gas tank" effortlessly by simply plugging it in at home. More
