While the sales team strive to offer an optimal experience at South Bay Volkswagen, for obvious reasons, the rest of the individuals employed there are less than satisfactory, put politely. I purchased an "Certified" vehicle there and within four days I had to return to have the battery replaced. This after the 100 Point Inspection had been conducted prior to the sale. I also was forced to wait over one month to receive my plates and tags, and to no surprise at this point, they too were subpar as I was being given used plates and with only a 6 month tag life. I had been informed that a 1 year tag allotment would be provided by a Financing person and by a manager. When I returned to address the discrepancy, I was forced to endure an argumentative and contentious staff. I was not accommodated adequately and when I made the observation that whatever shortcomings I have experienced in the entire process were a direct reflection of the abilities of the staff there, I was instantly and severely reproached and attacked by the manager, J. Lopez, for having done so. I advised him that it was not in his best interest to condescend, patronize, nor raise his tone at me and he accused me of threatening him as is natural for those lacking in ability and in grace and elegance of business service. I clarified that it was not any form of threat but a warning. He must have thought that I would demean myself to lower to the level of engaging in a physical altercation. Not surprised. Incompetence and lack-luster service were the take away that I have from conducting business with South Bay Volkswagen and I will of course share my thoughts with others when the opportunity arises. I was close to conducting my business with Mission Bay VW, but I did not because I found the model that I wanted there. I will know better next time. More

Luis was able to accommodate a request to drop off my vehicle even though my appointment was 5 days away. I had a catalytic converter service light on and was concerned about driving vehicle further. Wanted to lease a 2020 Jetta S. Already was in month 36 of a 36-month lease of a 2018 Jetta S initiated at this dealership 3 years ago. Worked with salesperson Christa De La Torre in 2018 who was excellent. Returning with a competitive lease offer in hand from a SF area dealer, all I wanted was for Southbay VW to match the deal. I was coming to the end of a Tier 1 lease and a perfect payment record with VW Credit. Had a HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE on Monday, January 4, 2021! Salesman, though pleasant, knew almost nothing and had no authority to make any deal. Instead he had me sitting at his desk while he ran back and forth to a nameless faceless Finance Manager who claimed my credit score was 40 points lower than the 719 it was on both TransUnion and Experian. In fact I had my up to the minute scores right on my iPhone as I sat there. This was the same baloney they tried to pull 3 years ago. Today’s salesman, though pleasant, knew very little and was a waste of time to deal with. Claimed to have been there 3 months, but didn’t even know they had a water fountain! Finance Manager apparently just planned to have me wait a long time in the hope that I’d tire and accept his sub par deal. Salesmen at this dealer should be replaced with pleasant 12 year olds since they have no authority and very little functionality. I needed neither selling nor demonstrating. Knew exactly the car I wanted. They had it in stock. I had a lease offer in hand from another dealer. It should have been easy. But somehow they managed to waste my time and make me dislike them in the process. What a sorry xxx lame outfit! They not only botched an easy slam dunk sale, they missed a chance to close a deal with an existing customer to create a repeat customer. These people are good examples of why most people hate visiting a dealership to buy or lease a new car. More
Special mention to Ricardo Sanchez as Service adviser, he has a lot of knowledge, very attentive and polite. He is responsive, always ahead with recommendations to avoid future issues.
