We attempted to purchase a Blue Certified Ford vehicle from this dealership and the experience did not reflect the Ford mission, vision, or values of transparency and customer trust. Over the course of tw from this dealership and the experience did not reflect the Ford mission, vision, or values of transparency and customer trust. Over the course of two weeks, we were in active communication and were even told we needed to complete a credit application—despite offering to pay cash. We complied, completed the application, and continued to work in good faith with the team. Today, we were suddenly informed that the vehicle had been sent to wholesale and was no longer available. However, the very same vehicle is still listed on their website—now at a higher price than originally advertised. We were also told that the transmission failed, yet this was a Blue Certified vehicle, which should still be covered under warranty. That raises serious concerns about either the accuracy of what we were told, or the dealership’s handling of certified vehicles and warranties. This dealership did not act with honesty, consistency, or customer respect. We invested time and proceeded exactly as instructed, only to have the situation handled in a way that felt misleading and disorganized at best, and intentionally deceptive at worst. Unfortunately, this experience has completely eroded our trust and confidence in this dealership. More

I received conflicting stories on the history of the truck from the salesman, Michael, and the Manager, Bob. One saying a 20-something year old kid owned it and didn’t off-road it, but there was red-brown dirt in the engine bay, and more of that dirt and rocks fell out of the back bumper when the salesman stepped on the bumper. He said that kid traded for a F150. Later, Bob, the sales manager, said a lady from Michigan owned it and traded it on a Jeep. On test drive there was an audible clunk from the front suspension as I pulled out of the shop, which the salesman attributed to the rubber hose that opens the garage door to the shop. But it’s definitely in the suspension. After the test drive, I wanted the truck. We sat down to look at numbers. I was shocked to see the OTD price $5000 above the sale price. They had “optional” add-ons already on the truck. Key protection plan, which they did remove, Luxcare exterior protection coating, which upon researching online I found to be garbage, a pure profit add-on, which they refused to remove, and a theft deterrent which they didn’t explain if it was an electronic device or etching of the VIN on parts. But they refused to remove that. I told them it was outside my budget with their add-ons, and we were using our credit union which had a great rate that we didn’t feel could be beat. Bob was confident that he could match or beat the rate. We spent 2.5 hours at the dealership while they ran our credit at 5 different banks but could not beat the rate. During that time, we were told what a great value it was, which I agreed with, and how in-demand the truck was, how many calls they’ve had on it, and even a wholesale offer higher than their asking price. But they told us how much they want to sell it to us instead, especially given the 5-hour round trip. They said they had two more financial institutions to try in the morning. I was willing to put the down money right away and then have my credit union mail them the check for the remainder, and I asked if they could transfer the car to one of their dealerships much closer to me. They said they couldn’t without charging me. I left the dealership without the truck, but with the promise that they would call first thing in the morning with the rates from those banks. I was quite disappointed, because I would have used their financing (they would have gotten their kickback from the bank), and I would have taken it home, had they just removed the add-ons. In the morning, I waited to hear back but received no calls or emails. I reached out to the salesman, no reply. I emailed Bob, the manager, but no reply. I called the finance manager, he knew nothing about the deal, I spoke to the general manager Paul, expressed my disappointment in my experience with their dealership, the bait & switch scheme, the lack of disclosure when they knew how far I was coming, and how everything was good while I was looking at the truck by myself, but once we sat at the desk it went downhill rapidly. Paul then informed me that Bob, despite his spiel about wanting us to be buy the car, and not wholesaling it till Monday, had indeed accepted the wholesale offer that morning. Paul was unapologetic and seemed to only want to defend his team and their processes. I never received any contact back from the salesman, Michael, the sales manager Bob, or the finance manager, Robert. No explanations, no apologies. In my opinion, they are liars, they have deceptive practices, and in my opinion, they (Ed Napleton Automotive Group) have not learned their lesson from having to settle a lawsuit (in the amount of $10 million) brought against them by the FTC and the state of Illinois for charging consumers hidden, illegal “junk fees” for unwanted add-ons. Don’t waste your time going to this dealership. More
