My morning started with the seat in my 2018 Chevy Equinox stuck in a very low recline position. The automatic seat moved back and forth, up and down but would not return to upright after reclining. I immedia stuck in a very low recline position. The automatic seat moved back and forth, up and down but would not return to upright after reclining. I immediately called the service department at this location and I was greeted and scheduled by a lovely woman to come in at 9am. Upon arrival, I was greeted by Manny and told a full diagnostics test would need to be run to ascertain the issue. I mentioned to Manny that I had a very close connection familiar with GM parts and car issues and they suggested the Equinox was most likely in need of a new switch. I also mentioned to Manny that I was running late for a 5 hour road trip and if there was any way to expedite the process. He told me it would be about an hour. After 1 hour and 53 minutes I received an update from Manny that the issue was the seat motor and it needed to be replaced. The cost would be $1,344.67. I was shocked at the recommendation and the cost however, it needed to be fixed. I once again asked Manny if he was sure it wasn't an issue with the switch and reminded him a close connection is very familiar with this issue and were the technicians sure it wasn't just a switch issue? He once again said no, and also informed me that the part was not in-stock and would take 2-3 days to arrive. I paid $258.32 for this diagnostics test. Due to me needing to get on the road I left the dealership and took my Equinox to a local garage that has done quick work for me before. The garage is farther away from my house than Napleton Downtown Chicago, so it isn't always my first choice for service, but I was hoping they could manually return my seat to upright. At the local garage, the owner did a very quick check and ascertained that the seat just needed a new switch, and it would be a $275 dollar repair. To say I am disappointed and frustrated is an understatement. I feel financially taken advantage of, my opinion disregarded and most importantly my time was wasted. As I mentioned before, this dealership is in my neighborhood and incredibly convenient. However, I will not be returning and will most likely not consider purchasing from GM in the future as this experience has been incredibly disheartening and frustrating. My vehicle is 7 years old and I am actively looking. I recognize that getting a vehicle serviced at the dealership can often times come with a premium price tag, which I am willing to pay for convenience. However, exaggerating the services needed in an attempt to make more money is unacceptable. While every person at the dealership I interacted with was very nice and professional, I have lost all trust that I am receiving the correct information to make the best decision for both my vehicle and my budget.
