I had done research on a Hyundai Veloster and had decided that was the vehicle I would purchase. After pricing around and negotiating via email and texting. I went in and met with the salesman Chris Neslen. I had brought my wife in to be sure she was on board with the purchase and we took the Veloster for a test drive. After talking it over and addressing some of my wife's concerns it was decided we would look at other vehicle options. After a number of hours and test driving numerous vehicles we settled on a Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. There was specific color my wife liked and the only one they had in stock was a demo. Chris mentioned to us it was driven by U of U's head football coach. He had mentioned the Murdock boys are big sports fans and often provided demo cars to local sports people. I was hoping for a decent deal considering it was a demo but when Chris returned the only discount for being demo was $500. The demo had 4000 miles already on it. Despite it being a demo car they still sell it as a new car with full warranty. I like to be a good steward over the money I have so I usually will not work out pricing at the dealership. They have all their tricks of the trade and slide of the hand techniques and you walk out paying much more than you should. I also have to say that I am very principle centered. I think being fair and considerate should be a top priority. Chris had spent hours with us and I wanted to be fair to him as well. I decided I would not get to caught up in the price game and just purchase the car. At the end of the sale I was content with everything. We drove away that night in the dark. I am pretty sure we were one of the last customers to leave that night. The following morning I discovered that there was some fairly good sized cracks in the windshield and some chips in the hood of the car. I immediately sent a message to Chris to report my findings. He apologized and said he would have the windshield repaired. He mentioned there service department was closed but he would try to schedule something. He called me later and told me that their windshield guy only came in on Thursdays and Fridays and that I can come in any Thursday or Friday to have it taken care of. He also said he ordered some touch paint for the chips in the hood. When I was ready to collect on the window repair, I called in to make sure there would not be any issue getting the repair and an oil change done at the same time. The receptionist sent me to the service department who then told me they had nothing on file stating they would provide window repair. I told them who my salesman was and they said he was in a meeting but would check with him. I was then transferred back to the receptionist who asked some additional questions. Before we hung up the phone the receptionist said they were all just getting out of their meeting and that she would transfer me to Chris. I was then sent to his voicemail and left him a message. He called about an hour later and then told me he did not remember making any commitments to fix our windshield. He said there was nothing in our file that stated they would do it. I relayed my experience as described in this post and he said, well unless you can provide proof I can't help you. I told him I would send him screen shots from my phone showing the text conversation where he made the promise. After sending them to him and waiting for a little while he called back. He immediately started doing the back step and saying things like "its been a year ago that you bought the car". He also said, The service manager's not willing to take care of the windshield since its been so long. My question to him is what happened to you can bring it in any Thursday or Friday? I was never told by him or anyone that I had to have the windshield fixed within a certain amount of time. They sold me a new car with a broken windshield and he agreed to have it fixed. Murdock Hyundai lives a double standard... they want to say they are "The best Hyundai dealership Utah has to offer" but will sell new cars with damage on them and then refuse to keep their promise to fix them. In my experience when Murdock makes a commitment to fix something they will find any reason or excuse to back out of the commitment. I have still never received the touch up paint promised. I am personally very disappointed in the lack of honesty and integrity they have displayed at this dealership. More
