Easiest Car Purchase We Ever Made and a Good Value Dave and Debbie here… We went to the Milwaukee Auto Show in February to look for a new car for Debbie. She liked her 2010 Honda CR-V and wanted Dave and Debbie here… We went to the Milwaukee Auto Show in February to look for a new car for Debbie. She liked her 2010 Honda CR-V and wanted something similar. In the end, she settled on a 2018 Acura RDX AWD base model -- a very similar car. Fast forward to July. We went to the local Milwaukee area dealer on the Fourth of July to see what they had. Three days later we were back for test drives. We bought from this dealer before and had had good experiences. Then we got their price. It seemed high, particularly since the 2019 RDXs hit the floor at the start of June. They said it was pretty much the best they could do. We got home and Dave hit the internet: Edmunds and TrueCar. We started getting offers within an hour or so, more on Sunday, and more on Monday. Some were good. The offer from Muller's Woodfield Acura was better than the others -- enough to make the difference. Danielle Smith and Dave started talking on Monday. She answered all of his questions and made it easy. Having never bought a car out of state and being an engineer, he had many. She even wrote up a sales form he could use with the local dealer (we worked with them first and wanted to give them a final shot). A quick call later, the local dealer's best-they-could-do price suddenly dropped $850, but they would go no lower. They figured we weren't willing to drive to Illinois to save nearly $400. Apparently few of their customers do. For us, $400 is most of a car payment and enough for four or five nights out. Our local dealer also cautioned us about all of the bad experiences customers can have out of state. That same evening, we drove to Muller's Woodfield Acura in Hoffman Estates. We arrived at 7:30 and were out at 9:00. Easiest experience we ever had. Barb took our information to get the paperwork started. Then it was off to the car to check it out and a test drive. Everything was EXACTLY as represented. Same model, same trim, same VIN number and same mileage (12) as quoted. Shortly after, we were filling in blanks and signing here, here and here with Myles. They even took our personal check for the down payment. Then Barb helped us set the car settings and we were on our way. Easy peasy and a quick drive back to Milwaukee and bed. We've had the car a few days now and we made the right choice. The people we worked with followed up to make sure everything's still good. It is. Dave even had a nice email conversation with Scott Muller (his name's on the building). Takeaways: - Woodfield Acura offered a good price and value. We'd happily buy from them again. - Woodfield Acura is big. They have two lots and maybe hundreds of cars (easily at least three times the size of our local dealer). - This is the quickest car purchase we've ever made. In and out in 90 minutes with the car. - Barb, Danielle and Myles were easy to work with and we had a great experience. We imagine the rest of Woodfield's staff is, too. - The internet is a valuable tool for car shopping. Myles said they sell most of their cars via the internet. - The phone and internet are valuable tools for negotiating. We haven't negotiated in person since 2004. - We had to drive a bit to get the price we wanted. It was worth it for us. - Should we ever have any issues under warranty, we'll hit our local dealer. They'll still happily take that business and Woodfield is just too far away for that. Dave and Debbie BTW: Regarding the Finance Manager's work in the question below, we already had all the numbers before we even stepped in the door, courtesy of Danielle. We also knew we didn't want any vehicle maintenance or protection products. Myles' review of all that was essentially a reprise with no pushiness because we were already set. And that's a good thing. New RDX I just purchased a new 2019 Acura RDX from Muller’s Acura in Hoffman Estates, and I was so very Impressed with this dealership’s customer service, and I just purchased a new 2019 Acura RDX from Muller’s Acura in Hoffman Estates, and I was so very Impressed with this dealership’s customer service, and in particular our salesman, Sebastian. He got me the car I wanted when I wanted it, when other dealers couldn’t do it. They communicated well and often all through the “waiting” process once I ordered my new car, and made the ordering decisions so easy. Sebastian walked me through all I needed to know to drive this very high-tech machine, and I now drive it with confidence, and lots and lots of enjoyment. This car is amazing! Shout out to Myles, pretty funny especially for a finance guy! All in all, honestly a great car-buying experience. More
