I have purchased many a vehicle in my day in numerous locales and Shelor MM Ford is among the best, for several reasons. In fact, due to my pleasant buying experience at Shelor and Ford's very compellin locales and Shelor MM Ford is among the best, for several reasons. In fact, due to my pleasant buying experience at Shelor and Ford's very compelling story with 2013 models, I actually placed an order for two vehicles the same day, only intending to consider one at the outset. Prior to visiting Shelor Ford, I was virtually convinced that my next vehicle would be the Camry Hybrid (I'd been looking at them for over a year). Following is my genuine account of the whole experience. For those interested in details, please read on. 1. From my first arrival at Shelor Ford, the salesman didn't attack me before I even had a chance to unbuckle my seatbelt despite observing me drive in. Instead, he let me settle my car and simply asked if he could provide any help after I exited and walked up. No vulture tactics here. 2. I arrived to look at Fusion Hybrids but there were none onsite (factory wasn't under full production yet). However, Eric offered to let me sit in an available Titanium model to get a feel for it and check the materials. Rather than be pushy during this initial contact, he offered to contact me when a Hybrid arrived. He was knowledgeable on the Hybrid despite not having one there and explained the early schedule status for 2013s. 3. I work in Northern Virginia and had an opportunity to visit several other dealerships and researched the Hybrid in the meantime. I was then positioned to know exactly what I wanted. Upon my return to Shelor, Eric was helpful and supportive in our discussion and didn't introduce pricing until I did. Based on my research, I had a fair price in mind. Eric met that price with no squabbling whatsoever. There was no back-n-forth with some unseen person scribbling "OUCH" and frowning faces on a sales sheet or any of those shenanigans. Normally when I buy a car, I pack a lunch and am armed with research documents, prepared to spend whatever time necessary to acquire a fair price, anticipating sales games. None of that here. I recall a previous experience at an eastern North Carolina dealership where a salesman wanted to argue that the sticker price was even open for negotiation. He conveyed that it's interesting that people don't negotiate at the register when they buy groceries, so why do they think it's an automatic off MSRP for cars. I quipped that when I spend $30k+ at a grocery store at one whack, you can bet your keister there will be negotiation. I left, never to return. Bottom line is that the one element of purchasing a car that invokes the most angst, pricing, is the very thing that was the easiest to complete. 4. I originally had no intention of buying a car then but the more I interacted with Eric and this dealership, the more I checked out the 2013 Ford story, the more I was convinced the time was now. I'm rather traditional in my thinking and have sworn off American auto manufacturers due to their soliciting benevolence from taxpayers to keep their failing ships afloat. In a free-market capitalist economy, the market quite naturally weeds out failing businesses but that paradigm was manually upset by our government's agreement to divert our tax dollars for so-called loans (without the taxpayers' voice, mind you). However, Ford went against the grain and elected to go it their own way, using their own in-house resources. No hand-outs there and that is the only reason I'd even consider a Ford (longtime Toyota/Honda owner ... you can drive 'em until the wheels fall off). Can't give Ford enough kudos for declining to go on the welfare program like the others and Ford is about as successful now as they've ever been. Thus, they deserve our purchase dollars and their 2013 products are worthy of serious consideration. Despite having to order the Fusion Hybrid, Eric assured me that I'd get best pricing on my trade-in when the new one arrived. Of course I had other options, like CarMax or a private sale, so it wasn't such a leap of faith. Nonetheless, Eric made me feel good about it so I signed up. 5. I then introduced the idea of also purchasing a '13 Explorer Limited. My wife didn't technically need a new vehicle but again, the Ford story is that compelling that I had to consider all the industry-leading safety technology and quality of the product. Again, I offered my rock-bottom price, given that I may purchase two vehicles, and Eric didn't so much as blink. In fact, he immediately did his own research to ensure that I was the benefactor of every factory and dealer incentive available. Thus, I received an even better deal than expected. It's refreshing when a dealership is more interested in gaining a lifetime customer than making a quick buck in the present. 6. During this entire process over three months (waited for factory builds), Eric and everyone else I interacted with at Shelor treated us with respect and they speak as though they're your neighbors or friends, rather than stuffed shirts looking for ways to pick your pocket. Eric and I had some candid conversations about the Ford products, the build process, timing, incentives, and pricing. Again, establishing trust. This is a minor detail but during one visit, another employee noticed that I walked into the customer lounge, observing that the coffee pot was empty. Immediately, he offered to make a new pot. Absolutely (it was freezing outside that day). Another employee passing by struck up a friendly conversation while I waited. The employees at Shelor Ford all seem to actually like their jobs and they've having a good time servicing customers. I should also note that Eric purchased and took delivery of his own new Ford truck during this time. I believe it says something when employees purchase their own company's products (expensive ones at that). Could there be a better endorsement for Ford products? I've noted on many occasions where dealership employees drive competitor vehicles themselves. Of course they park them in the back where you normally don't see that. 7. One note in the not-so-great department was Shelor's lack of advance notice of my Explorer build or delivery date. I was surprised when Eric called me one day to let me know it had arrived and was all washed up and ready to go. It was explained to me that a new manager was tasked with monitoring build/delivery dates but wasn't completely certain how to do that in the system. That wasn't known until my event but he's apparently all trained up now. This is a minor point in an otherwise very good experience overall. 8. The Explorer was delivered first and Eric worked like a madman to get our documentation squared away for the trade-in, plate transfer, and delivery acceptance to reduce our onsite time even though it was a very busy day at Shelor Ford. He even had the team clean the vehicle one more time after he peeled-off the window sticker for us. Then he spent quite a while in the vehicle to ensure my wife knew how to operate all the electronics and features of the Explorer's SYNC system, adaptive cruise control, lane departure system, rear camera, etc. In fact, he even paired her smart phone with the vehicle for her. She left feeling confidant she understood all the controls. There's a ton of new technology in the '13 Fords and the extra time he spent to explain and demo was really appreciated. He didn't rush her through the process, as if he had to get back to do something else, or speak to her as if she were ignorant for not knowing all these things off the bat. He was as friendly and courteous as ever and made sure she "got it" to her satisfaction before she drove off. 9. On delivery day, Eric even worked a deal for financing to beat my credit union rate. I had no intention of using any other than my credit union because they simply can't be beat. He knew that going into the transaction but offered to try to beat it anyway. It worked; now that's impressive. Melissa in the business office was really warm and courteous while taking care of my out-processing. Again, I'm a very experienced buyer and I know the last thing out the door, dealerships try to high-stress you into buying vehicle paint protection, extended warranties, and offers for extra buyback insurance in case a fallen satellite strikes your car at a certain time on a certain date (or whatever else they can think up). I normally don't let them finish their sentence and just say "no" to everything. Melissa was very knowledgeable of their products and presented a compelling case of information without any pressure to buy something whatsoever. We even discussed unrelated topics along the way in general conversation. Sure enough, I did opt for an option for nitrogen fill in the tires. I haven't said yes to one of those business people in a couple of decades. Totally my decision but I felt good about it. Again, testament to the friendliness, trust and customer-oriented service one gets here at Shelor MM Ford. 10. Eric followed-up with me within two business days to ensure everything was good with the new vehicle. I had signed the loan, they had their payment in full, and they still act like they care if we're satisfied with the purchase and the product. Big points there. You may typically not hear boo from a dealership once you drive off the lot, except perhaps spam e-mail. I would recommend Shelor MM Ford for anyone interested in a Ford product and I'm sure you'll have just as pleasant an experience as we did. As long as Ford continues with innovative product development, I anticipate being a MM Ford customer well into the future. Shelor MM is now my hometown dealership of choice. More

Pete in finance made the financing process a breeze, and we left with a great truck and a good feeling about our experience. The sales manager checked on our several times during the process, and overall we had the feeling that we were appreciated as customers and that they wanted to ensure our complete satisfaction. Neal did a great job showing us everything the car did and was very speedy and friendly!! Overall was a great buying experience! We called Shelor in search of a truck because we purchase our car there about 1 1/2 years ago and received excellent care. Our previous purchase experience was so positive we automatically went back to shel our car there about 1 1/2 years ago and received excellent care. Once again, we dealt with friendly staff who were kind enough to help us over the phone for the first initially because we live an hour and a half away. After phone conversations and internet searches we narrowed down the vehicle we wanted and made an appointment to drive down and test drive it. They had our paperwork ready, the truck was ready and the gentlemen we dealt with were excellent. The facility itself is very clean and designed so that the customers are comfortable while waiting for the paperwork to be completed. We took our 7 year old son with us and he enjoyed having a snack and wathching tv in the lounge while we finished our deal. I cannot remember the name of our finance person, but he was very nice and professional. He completed our paperwork quickly and explained all of our options in detail.
