Engine check light came on and it turns out wastegate on turbo went out. This was under warranty so I took it to Monrovia Chrysler Jeep to have them replace it. I also asked them to check the air conditioni turbo went out. This was under warranty so I took it to Monrovia Chrysler Jeep to have them replace it. I also asked them to check the air conditioning because it hadn't been working for a few months. Dropped vehicle off the week before Thanksgiving. Isacc, the service advisor, told me they were busy and wouldn't get to it till the following week which I didn't have an issue with. He also mentioned that Jeep will offer a free rental vehicle for 5 days if they find out the repair is covered by warranty. This Jeep dealership was in the the process of relocating to another budling, so I was expecting some extra time to fix the vehicle. He called me the following week and tried to sell me some additional maintenance services which I declined. He mentioned that the AC compressor needed to be replaced and quoted me around $1800 to have it done, in which I also declined. After that phone call, I didn't hear back from Isaac until New Year's Eve, when he said that the car was ready. I knew that they'd be moving, but I expected to at least hear some sort of update in the 30+ days they had my vehicle. And all that time that passed, he never mentioned anything about the free 5 day vehicle rental I should have gotten. Anyways, I pick up the vehicle on January 2nd, and drove it straight to another mechanic to have them look at the AC system. They connect their AC recovery machine to the vehicle and find that it doesn't have any refrigerant in it, so there wasn't much they could do to continue their diagnosis. I called Isaac to tell me them they never put my refrigerant back in the vehicle when they did their diagnosis. He told me that since the compressor is bad, it must have leaked out somehow. I've worked in the air condoning industry for over 20 years, so I know that isn't how this works. When I challenged him on his theory his attitude changed dramatically and I could tell he was getting very defensive. I wasn't getting anywhere with him so I asked to speak to his manager. Now on the phone with the service manager, he tells me that he doesn't know where my refrigerant went and suggests it must have leaked out. My service report that I received from them states "verified costumer concern and found A/C not blowing cold, inspected lines for any leaks and found none. Inspected freon level with AC machine and found freon up to spec and no leaks. Found AC compressor not working. Recommend replacing AC compressor and recharge." So for them to suggest that my refrigerant mysteriously disappeared between me picking up the vehicle and driving directly to another shop is ridiculous. I read the invoice directly to the service manager and he says that they don't remove refrigerant from the system, which isn't true. Once I questioned him on how they could verify my freon levels were correct, he tells me they use pressure gauges. Well, you can't get a proper gauge measurement when the compressor isn't working. He obviously didn't know what he was talking about and was just trying sound technical when it only showcased how little he actually knows. He said he spoke to the technician who worked on my vehicle and he said he didn't remove the freon. Unsatisfied I hung up with the manager and went back to pick up the vehicle from the local shop I dropped it off at. They pointed out several issues with the work that was done on the vehicle when Jeep had it at their shop. There was a stripped bolt which was loose in the engine bay, next to a loose nut. And there were bent brackets and missing bolts on my heat shield. Whoever worked on the vehicle while it was at the Jeep dealer either didn't give two sh*ts about his work, or is just a very unqualified mechanic and has no business working on cars. Either reason isn't good. With everything that took place, I really had a bad experience with Jeep's service department. I will never return to this dealer and I will encourage others to stay away as well. More
