Where to begin? I purchased my car here a little over two years ago. It had roughly 7,000 miles on it when I decided I wanted to buy it. They ran the numbers while I was working and called me back letting me know I got the car. How exciting! Two days pass, I go and pick up my new car, only to find that an additional 2,000 miles were added to the car before I got it? That's weird? Anyways, I bought it certified pre-owned as well as having bought an ADDITIONAL EXTENDED WARRANTY. All of which was discussed while signing the paper work. "Oh you will be covered for the next 5 years Bumper to Bumper" blah blah blah. Turns out my pre-owned warranty expired two years later and that my additional warranty that I purchased is set to run out soon. This can't be? I was told that I would be covered for the entire time I made payments on my car, which would be 5 years, not 2. This shop has been the MOST INCOMPETENT and downright RUDE shop I have ever had the displeasure to run across. I have had NUMEROUS issues with the service department, which is lazy and clearly does not have a single clue what they are doing. First major issue with the service department: I take my vehicle in for a routine inspection and a brake job. No big deal right? WRONG! I drop the vehicle off at 8 a.m. and tell them I would need it back by noon for work. I hear NOTHING from them up until I decide to call at 2 p.m. Oh they were backed up and didn't get to it. Fine, whatever, another couple of hours roll by, no word. Call again and inquire about my vehicle. They STILL haven't even looked at it. I politely explain to them that I need my vehicle back, that they have had it for nearly 8 hours. Their response? "Oh well if you need it just come get it and reschedule" Are you kidding me? You take my car for a routine service and inspection, have it for the past 8 hours and then tell me to reschedule? ABSURD! Next major issue: The NEXT DAY I am driving the 5 miles home from work when my brakes feel very off. I call and explain to them, reschedule the appointment. Sit in the waiting room for hours only for them to tell me there is nothing wrong with the brakes whatsoever. I continue driving it for another week or so, the brakes still feel off. Next thing I know, I pull up to my house only to find my brakes SMOKING! Call and AGAIN make ANOTHER appointment bring it back for the SAME issue. They look at it and come back to me, "Oh our mechanic forgot to clean the brakes before he replaced them, and he also did not put the clips on correctly, our apologies" So what does that mean? Well they did not even look at my brakes the first time I brought it in, nor did the person who we are supposed to be trusting with our vehicles even about to do a simple brake job, let alone something major! Yet again another issue: My air conditioner begins to make a gurgling noise when you turn it off, as well as my seat making a "clicking noise" while driving. I call and fight my way into getting a service appointment. I drop the car off early in the morning. AN ENTIRE DAY GOES BY WITH NO WORD ON MY CAR WHATSOEVER. I finally hear around 2 p.m. the next day that I am pretty much hearing things when it comes to the seat (which was not the case) and that the air conditioning noise was a "malibu quirk" ... Yes, that's what they told me! "Our mechanic has the same model as you and his air conditioner makes that same noise. It's just something malice's do" Well guys, seeing as how that a load of crap that you are trying to feed me and seeing as how when I purchased the car it did not have this "quirk" I would like it fixed. I tell them to keep looking at the seat because I can feel it moving slightly as I am driving it. They call me immediately back (how convenient) "Oh what luck! We found the problem! It wasn't an umbrella rolling around in the trunk like we thought. It's actually a plastic backing on the seat. We have to order the part for it and since we are such nice guys, we will cover the cost of the seat for you. When you reschedule another appointment we will fix that." No word about my air conditioning problem again. I finally make another appointment after the part has come in and explain that I would also like the air conditioner to be fixed as well. Wait in the waiting room. I get a call from them, yes, they didn't even have the consideration to come to me in person to tell me the status of my car, and they say that they finally figured out the "quirk in all malibus" and that it was the A.C. actuator, but conveniently my pre-owned warranty has expired and my extended warranty has a 100 dollar deductible (WHICH WAS NOT EXPLAINED WHEN I SPENT THE EXTRA MONEY ON THE WARRANTY: SEE FIRST PARAGRAPH). So in short, if you see a car you want from there. RUN! More

I found the entire staff to be welcoming, friendly, and super helpful. I was immediately greeted with a smile and a handshake. Gary let me take a look around, kick some tires, and drive a few different vehicles before I made my final choice. I was not rushed into making a decision and Gary wasn't upset with me when I asked for a day to mull it over, he encouraged it! Time to buy! I was concerned about how I was going to be able to finance the car because my credit is not stellar. The finance manager is a miracle worker as far as I'm concerned.. he got me approved with a good percentage rate on the loan and made the whole process easier than I thought it was going to be. I met the owner when I went in for delivery, which was pretty cool! It's not often that the owner of a dealership comes down to shake your hand and thank you personally. Overall, the experience I had with Northstar was great! They made me feel comfortable, weren't pushy, and I felt like a part of the family when I left. Thank you very much Gary and staff for making my car buying experience a memorable and favorable one! You've got a customer for life! More

I made an appointment for our 2011 Equinox at 9:00 am on Monday. The check engine light had been coming on an off, and the car didn't have much power. I called to check at noon, and it hadn't even been lo Monday. The check engine light had been coming on an off, and the car didn't have much power. I called to check at noon, and it hadn't even been looked at yet. Finally, at 6:00, they called to say it was the oxygen sensor. They fixed it Tuesday morning. They had my car for 24 hours, even though I had an appointment. More
2 years ago i had an issue with my 4WD. I took it to Northstar and they replaced a part for about $130 and told me i was all set. I even checked the receipt from that service date before i wrote this. I Northstar and they replaced a part for about $130 and told me i was all set. I even checked the receipt from that service date before i wrote this. It said "4WD OK". We have had a few light winters so i hadnt even used 4 wheel drive since then. Well i got stuck going up a driveway a few days ago, slapped it in 4 wheel drive, and still went nowhere. I just put some Discoverer AT3's on my truck so it seemed a bit suspect that i was getting stuck in two inches of snow with the 4WD on. So i called Northstar Chevrolet. I was told "get here in 10 minutes" and they will look at my truck that evening. Well i sat in the waiting room for about two hours before i decided to ask what was going on with the truck. "They haven't gotten to it yet". So i gave them my phone number and went home. Next morning, phone call "Your front differential doesn't work". So what are my options? "None, we cant find that part ANYWHERE IN THE COUNTRY" Yes that is what they actually said. A GM dealer that couldn't source a part, amazing. Well i had told the tech when i dropped the truck off that i suspected the gear assembly wasn't engaging the front axle (apparently that's called a front differential) but when i went to pick up the vehicle they charged my $100 to 'Diagnose' the problem. I asked them if the mechanic actually needed an hour to figure out what i had already told them. Then the dog and pony show started. I wont get into too many details but the manager of the service department told me $100 was a flat fee "no matter if your door handle is broken or they have to take your whole engine out". I have two issues with that statement. One; Who would charge someone $100 to figure out a door handle is broken, and two; how come it says on my receipt "Would require further dissasembly to diagnose"? Wait, isn't that part of the flat fee? Door handle or engine disasssembly? How did i fall outside of that margin? Disgruntled, i called around until i found my old mechanic working at the Midas on Central Avenue. Long story short, i took my vehicle there at 11am this morning. It is about 8pm now and my truck is sitting outside in my parking lot with a new to me (used) front differential. There is one other thing Northstar falls short on. Stapled to my receipt was a checklist with a bunch of boxes checked off that needed 'attention', primarily fluid levels. No one mentioned this when they called me to come pick up my truck. No one mentioned it at the dealership either. I found out when i got in my truck and started reading the receipt after i had paid. Here's my issue; my time is worth money, and having to leave work two days in a row to drop off and pick up my truck is not convenient. If a bunch of fluids needed to be added to my vehicle, then call me and ask me if i want them serviced so i don't have to waste more time making another appointment. In contrast, i gave the Chevy receipt to my mechanic at Midas so he could read the tech notes, and he went ahead and topped off all the fluids for me without me even asking (and no i was not charged). I am very disappointed in the service department at Northstar Chevrolet. Chevy is supposed to be a great american company, and with corporate backing you would think they could provide better service then the little guys. Unfortunately it seems their general attitude toward getting every penny they can out of their customers leaves them a little short sighted when it comes to customers needs, and convenience. Luckily for me i never have to step foot in their establishment again. More
We went to see new vhicles and went home with a 2010 Silverado, absolutely the best one on the lot for us. We got a rate of 3.25% for the loan thanks to their efforts, and John spent plenty of time show Silverado, absolutely the best one on the lot for us. We got a rate of 3.25% for the loan thanks to their efforts, and John spent plenty of time showing all the doohickeys and OnStar things so it would be easy to use immediately. Never once felt we were taking up all his time, never once felt anything other than this will now be our trade in dealer for the future. We can't fault them on anything if we tried, unless it would be to give us a WEEE bit more off the truck :), but our deal is exceptional none the less. We had one place absolutely give us the creeps, another was very nice with plenty of new trucks, but something told us to keep looking. We found our pefect match. You can't stop at 5 stars, sometimes, give NorthStar SIX stars. More
I know I look young, but I am 30. This guy was talking down to me from the start. All I wanted to do was test drive a car, and all he could do was whine about how close to closing time it was. If I buy a Chevy, I will not go here. The rest of the staff was trying to hurry and leave as well. I did not get a good vibe from this place. More
My experience with Northstar was bar none! I could not have been happier from the moment I drove onto the lot. I purchased my 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer from Northstar and couldn't have been happier. I have been happier from the moment I drove onto the lot. I purchased my 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer from Northstar and couldn't have been happier. I went back there first to give them the first shot at my new purchase. From top to bottom I could not have been happier! Ron Nichols was more than accommodating--making sure to hear my concerns, needs and wants. They found the perfect vehicle--a 2010 Traverse that worked perfectly with my needs, wants and financial ability. I could not be more happy to recommend Northstar Chevrolet as the "go to" dealer in the Capital District. They are truly in business for their customers! More
