Our first purchase was made after test driving and speaking with sales reps of other brands for several days, not really considering a Subaru. We went to a Subaru dealership because we happened to be in the area and wanted to see if they had a vehicle that would seat five adults comfortably. Surprisingly, we found the Legacy sedan. I then did a computer search to find one in inventory with exactly what we wanted on it in NC, and found it at Modern in Boone. I called and was connected with Adriane Lewis to see if it was still on the lot. During out conversation, she gave me their best out-the-door price. Very pleased, we placed a small down payment on the car over the phone and asked her to hold it for us until we could drive there the next day to complete the purchase. The treatment we received the next day from not only Adriane, but the whole team at Modern was the fabulous beginning of this continuing relationship. Although it's an hour drive for us, and there are three other Subaru dealers within 35 minutes of our home, the attention and service we receive here keeps us coming back and also referring friends and family to them. As a matter of fact, some friends we referred made a purchase from them the same day we made our most recent one! In addition to the Legacy, we've purchased an Outback and now added a Forester to the family, each selected due to a specific need. We've worked with Adriane on all three purchases because she made the first one so easy and pleasant, and we highly recommend her. She is extremely knowledgeable of the product and shares the details and information about the vehicles in an easily understandable way, making it easy to compare the different models and decide which best suits your need. We share her name and phone number frequently with others who are interested in purchasing a new or used vehicle. We also return to Modern for our vehicles to be serviced and have been very pleased each time with the ease of scheduling an appointment to meet our need, the attention to detail, and the way we and our cars have been treated at each visit. For anyone interested in learning what Subaru has available, learning about the quality and other differences in Subaru vehicles when compared with other brands, and having a pleasant and educational car buying experience, we highly recommend Modern Subaru of Boone and Adriane Lewis. More

An honest review of service department used car This is a review of my experience dealing with the service department. Back in early February, I bought a used 2007 Mercury Mountaineer from Modern Su This is a review of my experience dealing with the service department. Back in early February, I bought a used 2007 Mercury Mountaineer from Modern Subaru of Boone. I live in Greensboro, and the reason I went this far to buy is because the car only had about 75k miles on it. I thought it might be a good car, one owner new tires and more. The car came with "Smart Buy" warranty, so I was confidant with my purchase. This warranty supposedly involves a 150 point check before delivery. However, in March, I discovered the rear window defroster didn't work, and the air conditioning was malfunctioning. So I had to take the car to a local Ford dealer for diagnosis. It needed a new rear glass, and a "blend door" for the air. The dealer did bring me a loaner and picked up my car for repair. They did replace the rear glass, and it does work now. Thank you. The air conditioning they tried to repair to no avail. They told me it was misdiagnosed. I took it to my local Ford dealer for repair at a cost of over $300. The dealer replaced the blend door, and it works fine now. In about May or June, I noticed that the check engine light did not come on when the ignition was turned on. I know right? I should have noticed this sooner. My fault. It turns out that someone had put some tape over the indicator light on the dash. The car had an emission code. So here we are in September of this year, and the transmission has gone bad. Again, I had to take the car to my local Ford dealer for diagnosis. They said it needs a new transmission. So Modern came and got the car on or about September 27th. They did bring me a loaner, thank you. After going back and forth with the service department, I FINALLY got the car back on October 22nd. And I had to drive to Boone to get it. They did fix the check engine light and fixed the problem with the emission code. Thank you. However, the transmission is a different story. It sure does shift a lot better, BUT it takes 3-4 seconds before it engages into drive gear. The colder it gets, the longer it takes. And I was told that "it checks out just fine". This transmission supposedly came from Ford, either a new one or rebuilt by Ford. I seriously have my doubts. Also, about a week after I got the car back, the check engine light came back on and it is an oxygen sensor. So now I am going to be stuck with another expensive repair. I sure hope it isn't because of something the service department did wrong, but who knows? It was my intention to sell this car after getting it back from the dealer, but that is out of the question now because of how the transmission is acting up. Anyway, the "Smart Buy" warranty is worthless, and this particular dealer apparently did not do this 150 point check of the car before delivery. If they did, I feel sure some of these problems would have been addressed before it was put up for sale. Suggestion...do not EVER buy a used car form a dealer that is not manufacturer of the car you are looking at. And please, check the car out throughly. Beg, borrow. or steal (better yet, rent one, it will be a good investment) a computer scanner and scan the computer before delivery. I have told everyone I know not to buy a used car from any Modern dealer. SO disappointed with this dealer, and the entire Modern experience. I wish you could contact me if you need more information of my experience. I have kept all of the correspondence from the service department and can confirm this debacle. However this review site will not let me include contact information. CAVEAT EMPTOR BEWARE THIS SERVICE DEPARTMENT!!! Doug W. So here I am a year later with this "new" transmission. I drive 16 miles one way to work. Suddenly, the check engine light comes on, no big deal, I keep driving the car. Then while driving to work one day the *gasp* wrench light comes on. So I put the scanner on it, and lo and behold, the transmission needs a new solenoid pack. WOW! I found one on Amazon for $365 and installed it myself. I certainly wasn't going to contact this horrible dealer with this problem. There you go, such a good service department right? And I'm sure this was a new transmission from Ford as they told me. Anyway, be careful here and do your homework before doing business with this dealer, and the COMPANY as a whole. Terrible. Please, be careful More
