I bought what I believe was a CPO car that had all the boxes checked so it was in great condition when I drove off the lot. What I drove off with was a car that had been in a previous accident all the while in blissful ignorance. It started with a brake noise that I couldn’t seem to get rid of. I went to my local autoshop to have it checked and it is there where my problems began. He would uncover, after only 2 months with the car, that the rotor on the inside showed some trauma that appeared to be something had hit it. I will say that Midway was willing to step in and pay for this issue. I asked and received an inspection from them to make sure that this was the only problem. They assured me it was. Fast forward 6 months later and I decide to do my normal tire rotation. Upon receiving the car back, the steering feels slightly off. I figure that an alignment is probably due and take it to my alignment guy. Before he does it, he goes for a quick test drive where he hears a humming noise that he believes is the result of a hub issue in the same right corner as the brake issue. I say to him, I thought that the humming issue was the engine since I always heard it. As this is a CPO car with only 45k miles I go to the dealer. I decide to go to another dealership to have it checked for 1. Location and 2. Because if this is a hub issue, why wasn’t this fixed from the original cpo inspection? How can I believe they will fix it this time? At the other dealership they find and repair the hub as part of the warranty however they were hesitant at first. I ask why? Their conclusion was that the hub showed evidence that it had been in an accident. I said how could you tell? They said by the amount of damage as well as the fact that your bumper is not an official Nissan part and the paint job in small areas can show the difference. At this point, I am furious. I reach out to them with no avail so I decide to complain to the BBB. Their conclusion is that after 11 months, their clean car fax reports and overall time since purchase, seem to show that I am liable. FYI, if the dealer bought the car in an auction that had prior damage from an accident, it is highly possible that the rental/fleet company paid out of pocket for the fix then sold the car to the dealership. What makes it worse is that the dealership didn’t do their due diligence in finding the issues. So out of ideas, I do one last thing which is to have another dealership do a full inspection in which they find I have a leaky control arm, which is indicative again of right front damage from an accident. So all in all I spent $550 of my money to fix problems that should’ve been fixed when I left the lot. You may ask? How come I didn’t check in sooner? Well, like most drivers, I go in and do my normal things, oil changes etc. In order to get a thorough check like a hub etc, you have to pay. Like most drivers, I couldn’t tell if there was a problem because I am not a trained automotive technician. Why would I pay for an inspection when Midway checked it twice with no problems? Trust, is why I didn’t do all those things. I put my trust in their hands and if weren’t for my auto shop finding out the issue, I would still be driving with a bad hub and leaky control arm. Midway could’ve made this right, but decided not to and that is disappointing. More
