Dear Reader, We at Mercedes-Benz of Silver Spring we take pride in treating our customer’s the way we would like to be treated so when someone writes something like this about us without giving us the opportunity to at least try to rectify the situation, we do take it very seriously. As this person stated, it seems like we did what we were supposed to do by explaining why the trade may not have been worth as much as the blue book value or what the customer thought. As far as the reconditioning charges go, dealerships do not recondition pre-owned vehicles at cost, but that does not seem to be the main issue with the original poster. He should not have an issue with the service department making a small profit on the reconditioning of a pre-owned vehicle. As for the last issue… We DO NOT talk negatively about our competition because it is not good business practice. We do not refer customers to CarMax or other dealers for appraisal either, but if a customer is interested in taking their vehicle there for a second opinion, we do whatever we can to assist them with that. Please remember that appraisals are subjective and will vary from place to place. We do not know what CarMax or anyone one else may put on a particular vehicle. At Mercedes-Benz of Silver Spring we use a very advanced computer software tool to assist our experienced appraisal staff. This allows us to look at various data including recent trades, auction values, nada values and more to help us appraise a vehicle for what we believe is its true value.
