I didn't want to do this because of the higher interest rate, but he assured me he had a workaround. Sign for their loan now, then take it to Chase and pay it off using the Chase loan. It would be the exact same as using the Chase loan right now, is what he told me. Since the loan has no prepayment penalty, I wouldn't be losing any money, and since the loan is already approved, it would be really easy. I still didn't want to do this, but he promised that it would work. So next, I go to Chase, and no, loans can't be used that way. The loan has to be used for the purchase. The closest thing to the workaround we could find was to apply for a new loan as a re-finance, instead. To make things worse, Chase doesn't even do car refinancing, so I would have to go somewhere else and re-apply. Now, if I want the lower interest rate, I have to put in work to shop around for loans, and who knows if I can get as low a rate on a refinance. More likely, I am just stuck with the higher payments. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt, everyone who worked there was nice, but I just don't know if someone who works in finance and does car loans for a living, really didn't know the difference between a purchase loan and a refinance loan. Also, if he was hinting at a refinance, which, if he was, he should have said so clearly, he wasn't familiar with the finance policy of the largest bank in the United States? Again, I want to give them the benefit of the doubt, but this really left me with a bad taste (and a higher cost). Especially unfortunate because I liked them enough to go with a higher cost/options car here because they didn't have a lower cost option in stock (which other dealerships did). More
