The 24,0000 Mile servicing for my Subaru Forester went well and the service rep was very informative. It took awhile because they took care of an unanticipated problem. More

I received poor and dishonest service from the Evanston Subaru in Skokie dealership. This was very disappointing because I admire the community support the dealership provides. In late August, I went into More

McGrath Evanston Subaru responded

After speaking to this reviewer/customer, it is agreed that she signed a bill of sale for a vehicle she didn't really want. At the time of her test drive we only had one Crosstrek in stock, which had leather. For some reason, this reviewer/customer thought the Crosstrek Premium she ordered include leather. I had sent her copies of the bill of sale which clearly had her signature on it. She admitted she made a mistake and we cheerfully refunded to her her deposit. We left our conversation with an agreement that is was a mutual mistake. She shared with me she bought the vehicle from another dealer and I wished her nothing but the best and we moved on!!

After speaking with this customer by phone, we agreed it was a mutual mistake and the Subaru we ordered for her did not have on it what she wanted. When she originally came in we only had a Subaru Crosstrek Limited available for a test drive. The bill of sale we agreed upon was a Premium, which did not include leather. I sent her signed copies of the bill of sale which showed a Subaru Crosstrek Premium model which does not include leather. When she came to pick up her car, she said where is the leather interior. The salesman said, he never negotiated a Limited, but a Premium model instead. We ultimately gave the customer back her deposit and apologized for the mix up. I asked her why she signed a bill of sale for a car she didn't want, and she said she was confused. Either way, I wish nothing but the best and I think we moved on.

This is an absolute misrepresentation of what occurred. I did not agree that it was a "mutual mistake". I stated that I accepted my responsibility for signing a purchase order I did not read. The salesman, Mr. Mejia asked me to sign a purchase order (or bill of sale that Mr. Paddor the owner referenced above) when I made my deposit. I signed it without reading ALL of the details. I assumed the purchase order was for the Limited which I test drove and which I thought I was ordering. I also shared with the owner when I spoke with him that the starting negotiating price I had with Mr. Mejia was $29K. This is way above the price for the Premium. Mr. Mejija knew that I was negotiating on the Limited and not the Premium. It's very interesting to me that Mr. Mejia, an experienced salesperson, did not give me a copy of the purchase order before I left the dealership. He also produced a "copy cat" of the car features when I went back to get the car that he did not share with me when I left my deposit for what I thought I was purchasing -- a 2021 Crosstrek Limited. Again, this is MY MISTAKE and I know that it was extremely naive of me to 1) sign papers without reading, understanding, and verifying all the details of said papers and 2) getting copies.  I assume (and I have no proof of this) that he left the style of the car blank on the purchase order I signed and then filled in the Premium when I left the dealership. When Mr. Paddor states that, "I asked her why she signed a bill of sale for car she didn't want, and she said she was confused." This is an outright lie. We had no such conversation. Mr. Paddor is trying to cast me as some addled-minded person. I will concede that I was naive and got caught up in the moment of striking a good deal on a car that I wanted. I failed to do my due diligence and that's on me. I wish Mr. Paddor as the owner of the Evanston Subaru in Skokie dealership would accept their part in this. However, I'm not holding my breath. It is clear to me that he is only interested in downplaying this negative review of his dealership. The fact that he would mischaracterize our conversation is even more telling about the type of owner he is. As I told him on the phone, I stand my story.
