Didn't come right away, so I called again before we left the house. Was told it was still available. Omar took our phone number and said he would call if "someone moved on it" Gave him our phone number. But just to be safe I called and left a voicemail for Pepe to say we were coming. So we drove a half an hour to see it. Got there asked for Pepe who we spoke to originally. Waited 10 minutes to be told he was with a customer. OK...... got another salesman. He went off to get the keys......another 15 minutes. He came back and said the car wasn't available. Needless to say we weren't too happy. Then the sales manager yelled out from behind his desk. "Sell the car". So the salesman (think his name was Mark) said OK and we walked to the Service Dept. On the way there he says.."Oh there is a deposit on it" and shrugged his shoulders. WHAT? We asked, "Why are you showing a car that has a deposit on it? " He said don't worry about it....they'll just refund the guy. So we get to the car and there are people in it. Sales guy says Don't worry he's not buying it....they are using the car as a demo so they can compare a Ford's ride to a Subaru"'s. This car is on deposit to someone and they are still showing it and using it as a demo?? He then asked us to wait and see if this customer buys it. Wait..what? Didn't He just said he wasn't buying it? Well we decided to wait. The waiting room was horrible and dirty. 15 minutes later Omar comes back and says the car was sold. We should have gotten here earlier! Mind you we waited almost 25 minutes before we saw the car. Why weren't we told straight off that it wasn't available or that it had a deposit on it? They just wanted to get us in there to sell us something else. Isn't that a classic bait and switch??? Isn't that against the law?? Then......after we drove all the way home....Omar sends a text saying that the car is now available again. Really? We called back and got his voicemail....then we answered the text. No reply on either. That was a Saturday so we waited till Monday.....We called the dealer at 9:00 when it opened......was told the car is still available. Ate breakfast got ready to go out and I called again to make sure....because of what happened before. I asked for Omar, no answer, voicemail, asked for the Sales Manager, no answer, it just rang, no voicemail. Called back, asked for sales, got someone (he didn't offer up his name) he said the car had a deposit on it! When I replied, "Really? we literally just called. He barked out a YES! and hung up on me. Unbelievable! Here we go again. Thank God we didn't leave the house this time!! What a shady dealer! How many times are you going to sell and resell the same car? What about the man who had put down a deposit.....and they sold it out from under him initially? Will never go back there and believe me everyone I know will know what kind of business this is. Wish I had seen these reviews before I wasted a Saturday afternoon trying to buy a car from them. More
Lied to get me in the door.. wasted my time They told me two hours prior that they still had the car I was looking at and I drove two hours from Wisconsin to find out they sold the car three day They told me two hours prior that they still had the car I was looking at and I drove two hours from Wisconsin to find out they sold the car three days ago. The salesman was the worse. He tried to show me another car that was way out of my budget. I told him my budget and what I wanted for my trade which was fair. They wanted to give me little to nothing for my car and then once he realized that this car was not going to work out, he stopped trying. He did not even see if they had another car within my budget which I know they had probably 10 or more in my budget. He was very unprofessional. I told him I was very unhappy that I drove all that way and because one person told me twice they still had the car and because he could not double check I wasted 5 hours out of my day. All he had to say was that this happens all the time and it will happen at any dealership I go to. Between my family and I we have bought 5 cars from Subaru dealerships and have had nothing but excellent experiences and this was the absolute worse by far. If you want to deal with the typical sleazebag dealership people then come here. More

As we were negotiating the price, the owner made us feel like we were wasting his time, even though we told him that we were willing to buy 2 cars. I would not recommend this dealership because they are extremely rude and they don't appreciate their customers. More

I've been a fan of the SUV style vehicle, since I owned a '99 Honda CRV. After doing a lot of research online, I learned that the Subaru Forester has had a consistent good rating for some time now. As part of my research I visited several dealerships (i.e Honda, Toyota, Subaru) to see, talk and test drive the various SUV vehicles in their line up. Seeing how the Forester had such high consistent ratings, I decided to go with the 2015 Subaru Forester as my next vehicle that I wanted to invest in. I visited several Subaru dealerships in a span of the month of researching. Of the dealerships, Evanston Subaru really stood out and I naturally felt comfortable to want to work with them on purchasing my next vehicle. There are details that you quickly see about this dealership that puts you at ease. One obvious one is that the appearance of the dealership as you drove into their parking lot looked very professional, modern, and clean. It just gave you that initial feeling that Evanston Subaru cared about their customers by the way they cared about their workplace. The gentleman who I was fortunate to work with was Ludovic "Lou" Perruffel. Lou was very approachable and pleasant. I especially appreciated his professionalism and most of all his down-to-earth, up front approach. I can't express enough how helpful and understanding he was throughout my car buying experience. The finance personnel that I worked with, David, was very professional and really knowlegeable. Being that it was 16 years ago since I last bought a car, Lou and David really did make the effort to make my experience a comfortable and stress-free one. I know that you might be thinking, "who is this person that's providing this rating on Yelp about Evanston Subaru?" "He must work for them?" I promise you, I don't work for the dealership. I'm just an "average joe" customer like everyone else that was lucky enough to have visited Evanston Subaru and Lou. Thanks to them, my anxieties, and nerves about buying a new car after 16 years a less stress, more pleasant car buying experience. So if you're shopping for a new car, even if it's been 16 years or 5 years ago, and you're looking for a great car buying experience....stop in at Evanston Subaru. All their staff there are great to work with. If you run into Lou Perruffel as your salesman, tell him "Henry says hi and that you're looking for that great car buying experience". More

OWNER TRIED HARRASSING ME OVER THE PHONE! *****ROB P* ( the owner) called me HARRASSING me to take down my yelp review because he “claims” it’s dishonest! First of all everything I said on my *****ROB P* ( the owner) called me HARRASSING me to take down my yelp review because he “claims” it’s dishonest! First of all everything I said on my review of his dealership is correct. My credit score was a little different only because I didn’t remember it from the top of my head but after reviewing my paperwork it is 687 not 698. There! Now it is 100% correct ROB P.. I HOPE EVERYONE READS MY REVIEW AND CHANGES THEIR MIND OF TRYING TO PURCHASE A VEHICLE AT YOUR DEALERSHIP! I will not take my review down and yelp shouldn’t take it down either since this is the point of having yelp. Yelp is suppose to help others and ALSO WARN THEM! I truly believe that this dealer DOES NOT INSPECT THEIR USED VEHICLES FOR ROAD SAFETY. They sell it like that to consumers. Not a good way to do business if you ask me. I guess ROB P does not know that the internet can make or break a business! I thought ROB P was going to call me to fix this problem but instead he decided to tell me how maybe it’s my mechanic that ripped me off and how my review is not true and to take it down! He would not allow me to speak and loudly spoke over me until the conversation became pointless. Rob P is an extremely arrogant business man and clearly does not care about the safety or satisfaction of the buyers. Before the phone conversation had started I was very willing to adjust my yelp comment- had he responded with a friendlier tone and a willingness to resolve my car issues, or at least meet some where in the middle with some type of resolution. Clearly he is incapable of having a conversation when he is confronted with his poor managerial skills and his failure as a business man to negotiate. SHAME ON YOU ROB P FROM EVANSTON SUBARU More
I BOUGHT A LEMON FROM HERE!!! The staff was friendly but i had a bad experience here and here is why: 1. I arrived at the dealer around 11am and didn't get out of there until 430 pm all because they had problems getting me a loan which I don't understand since my credit is not very bad (698) . 2. The car I purchased had some problems because It needed brakes, rotors, suspension control arms in the front needed to be replaced and it was low on engine oil. 3. I took the car to a mechanic so that he can do a quick check list on what the vehicle needed and he gave me a price on replacing the brakes, rotors, suspension control arms, and since it's an Audi a4 at 94000 miles he told me it was going to need a timing belt and water pump replacement since these cars are sensitive if you don't change it before 100k the engine can go bad. He also told me he noticed the engine was leaking oil but he wasn't 100% sure from where unless i left the car there with him for the day and I couldn't since the dealer only gives you a few hrs to take the car to a mechanic. So he quoted me at $1900 to repair everything else. Since he wasn't sure what exactly was causing the engine oil leak he couldn't quote me on that. I went back to the dealer and told them about how much I will need to spend in order for the car to be safe to drive not to mention the oil leak. The sales guy " ethan" told me that there was no way they would drop the price $1900. I should have left after he said that but he then went to talk to his manager and they dropped the price by $1000. Since I liked the car and I didn't want to keep shopping around anymore getting my credit ran by multiple dealers I decided to accept the deal. WHAT A MISTAKE!!!! Since I bought the car the next day I took it to my Audi specialist mechanic and he pinpointed what exactly was causing the oil leak after paying him $80 for his time. Turns out it was leaking oil from the back of the engine where the vacuum pump is attached and as well as the head gasket. That job alone was going to cost me $1200. I also noticed that when I drove it to the mechanic it randomly made like a humming noise from the rear wheels. Turns out its both rear wheel bearings! That alone was going to cost me $750! So since I found out about all of this I called the dealer Monday morning since I bought the car Saturday. I told my sales rep "ethan" about this and he proceeded to tell me there was nothing they can do! I guess it was stupid of me to think that here is this wonderful state of illinois consumers have a 3 day cancellation period! i bought the car because I was desperate and It was my mistake for making the purchase even though it had problems! but I also bought it thinking that here in illinois you have a 3 day cancellation period! Since I bought a LEMON! I ended up spending $3850 to repair it so that it's safe to drive! I am FURIOUS with the whole thing!! THIS DEALER SELLS USED VEHICLES WITHOUT FIXING ANY PROBLEMS THEY MIGHT HAVE AND HOPING TO SELL IT TO A SUCKER! My word of advise is DON'T BUY A USED VEHICLE FROM THERE AT ALL!!!! and if you do make sure they fix it for you or give you in writting a 3 day cancellation period!!!!!!! More

Once we walked on the floor we were finally greeted after being stared at for 10 minutes while the sales staff debated who was going to take us. Finally Pepi stepped forward and took us on a test drive. We came back to discuss colors and options we wanted and he told us the car we wanted would not be there for a few weeks when in fact the exact car was located there and was available for sale. We asked was for an appraisal to be done on my vehicle so we could get a deal done. He told us that his manager would not do an appraisal because we were not serious about buying the car. Pepi told us once we were serious about buying, then we could discuss numbers. Since we really loved the Outback, we did not not let this horrible experience deter us. Instead we went to Grand Subaru and purchased the vehicle. Not only was Pepi disinterested, I had to ask him if he wanted to take down our information to follow up on a car that was already there but he failed to tell me. More
