Bought this vehicle here Brand new. Had maintenance light come on scheduled appt. Arrive early service writer says you are scheduled for tire rotation. I said I have brand new tires? W Had maintenance light come on scheduled appt. Arrive early service writer says you are scheduled for tire rotation. I said I have brand new tires? Which were installed 2weeks prior. I said it that why the lights on? He said yes because it was due for a rotation. Due every 5000 miles I said…I don’t have 5000 miles on tires. I said ok can you reset the maintenance required light. They are brand new . He says no we can’t.. just go on YouTube you can figure it out? I said are you serious, he said yes I am I guess I could ask my manager. Ok please do! Wanted to post a case of "upselling" or unneeded repairs I experienced today, 8/25/2022 at Elmhurst Toyota, Illinois. The sevice advisor was led to believe my Pruis front brake pads were worn out and it w I experienced today, 8/25/2022 at Elmhurst Toyota, Illinois. The sevice advisor was led to believe my Pruis front brake pads were worn out and it was "metal to metal" contact. I immediately asked to see it and we went to the service bay where the mechanic raised it up and shined his flashlight through the wheel. I mentioned removal of the wheel was necessary to clearly see if there is any lining left. After he did the removal, I used his flashlight and pointed out how much lining was still present. There was no comment on his part as he walked away. My multi point inspection sheet specified 0-3 mm of lining remaining which was a inaccurate estimate! 7 months ago I had my regular Toyota dealer, Continental perform the oil change and the lining was reported as 6-4 mm. I gave Elmhurst Toyota the benefit of the doubt to show me the metal to metal situation thinking to myself of the outside possibility of the caliper seizing and wearing the pads prematurely. This was NOT the case as the brakes have plenty of lining left. My 2014 Prius has 138,000 miles on it currently with the original pads and rotors. The recommended $610.95 + tax for brake pad replacement was not necessary and a pure "upsell!" Beware of this dealership when they recommend services above and beyond what you need! In the 8 years I've had Continental Toyota service my Prius, they've never tried to pull this on me. Guess where I'm going to for my next oil change? Ed - Chicagoland More
