Ocean Subaru was the second dealer we visited - the first one was understaffed and cramped (it had the feel of a one-person shop - a few potential customers standing around bored, uninviting waiting room, ru one was understaffed and cramped (it had the feel of a one-person shop - a few potential customers standing around bored, uninviting waiting room, run-down lot, etc) - and nobody was free to talk to us - so we decided very quickly to move on... So we drove over to Hampton... and got a completely different experience. Ben Allen came out to greet us before we were even out of our old car, and within a few minutes he disappeared to get us a car for a test drive. We loved the car, and when we got back it was time to cut a deal. I had done some research on the internet before leaving home, so I had some numbers in mind. As we went through the options, Ben actually discouraged us from a few options I was thinking about, and we left with a contract for a car that we felt very good about - and for a little less money than I had been prepared to pay. Less than a week later, we're driving our new Legacy. More
Very good experience overall. Most of my business was done via email and it was completely painless. I had a very specific car in mind and required very little. Pricing was very upfront, lower than compa done via email and it was completely painless. I had a very specific car in mind and required very little. Pricing was very upfront, lower than comparable area dealers, and the financing process was easy and straightforward. I put off buying a new car for a long time just because I didn't want to bother with the whole haggling and dealer process, but this was very simple and I felt no pressure or salesmanship. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking at a Subaru. So far, I absolutely love the car as well! More

While making the deal to buy the car we were offered a free NH inspection, and free oil change for the entire length of time we own the car. Because of the amount of miles driven daily with the car it is time for the fourth oil change. When we called to schedule an oil change on Jan. 26, 2013 we were informed that it would be necessary for us to get the car serviced for it's regular 30,000 mile maintenance check at the cost of $495.00. We were told that in order to obtain the free oil changes offered to us at the time of the deal it would be necessary to pay $450.00 every 30,000 miles. We were not given this information while making the deal to by the car. No one ever mentioned the customer would have to pay $450.00 every 30,000 miles in order to receive the free oil change. After much arguing, and explaining we were offered a discounted rate for the maintenance of $350.00. Most everything being checked is covered under warranty, and everything else we can maintain ourselves. Why would we pay $450.00 for a maintenance check on a car with no problems that is not even a year old? During my conversation with the GM trying to resolve this issue I was told that the owner of this dealership said all of this info is on their website, and we would have to follow the rules. Pretty pathetic! There isn't a reason for me to go to a dealership's website after we've purchased a car from them. The oil change really isn't a big issue, I can do that myself. Unfortunately we no longer feel comfortable dealing with a deceptive dealership. We've lost all trust. This is a good car. There is nothing wrong with this car, but we are trading it in. We don't want to own a brand of car that costs us money for a mechanic when it is not broken! More
I had a wonderful buying experience at Ocean Subaru. Just before New Year's, I started researching several makes and models, and once I saw how highly rated the Forester was, I clicked the button at Consumer before New Year's, I started researching several makes and models, and once I saw how highly rated the Forester was, I clicked the button at Consumer Reports to get quotes from various dealers. This entailed entering my contact info, which I wasn't really ready to do, but I wanted to compare dealerships and also to see how their prices compared with Edmunds and Kelley Blue Book. A flurry of return calls came in, and I inadvertently replied to the one from Ocean Subaru. But it turned out for the best, because it put me in touch with Cheryl Pierro. When I explained to Cheryl that I was just starting my search and wasn't ready to make an appointment, she said she completely understood and didn't pressure me to hurry in. When I asked about differences between the 2013 and 2014 Foresters, she explained that unlike many years, the changes this year were significant, and she told me about the new Forester being named Motor Trend's 2014 SUV of the Year. Then she left me to continue my research. Along the way, New Year's came and went, and a snowstorm kept me from moving forward with actual visits to dealerships. But when the time came, despite having heard from many other dealers, Ocean Subaru was first on my list. Not being a great bargainer (various websites had said that negotiating the price was expected), I had asked my daughter to come with me. When we arrived, Cheryl was ready with keys in hand for test-drives on a Forester and an Outback. Her presentation of the features of the cars was thorough, and the test-drives were perfect, including a variety of road conditions. Back at the dealership, I braced myself for the negotiation phase. But in the end, we didn't need to bargain much, because the offer on the new Forester was competetive and there turned out to be a little wiggle room on the trade-in (thank you, Mark Galante, for being willing to work with us on that; I understand that Priuses are not hot items in New England in January). I also worked with Michele McMahon, who did an excellent job of explaining the optional extended warranty. The sub-model I wanted wasn't available on the lot in the color I wanted, but Mark and Cheryl were able to track one down in North Conway. Icy roads prevented delivery that day and the next, but by Wednesday morning, I was back at Ocean, picking up my wonderful car. Before I started for home, Cheryl provided a thorough explanation of the car's additional features and spent a great deal of time trying to get my Bluetooth set up. She only stopped when I urged her to, saying that I would work on it at home and promising to take her up on her kind offer to come back for help if I wasn't successful (the likely cause of the problem was my phone's low battery; the Bluetooth is now set up and working fine). As has been noted by other reviewers, the atmosphere at Ocean is perfect: friendly, professional, and low pressure. More
I have been an owner of Subaru cars over the years and this year I have decided to buy a new Outback. I went to TrueCar.com to get the right model and price. Ocean Subaru offered the best price among the 3 dealers mentioned and the only one that responded to my searched. Ben Allen made it easier for me to decide by sending me a window sticker of the car I was looking for. Even though the drive to the Ocean Subaru was 45 minutes from my place, it was worth the time. I bought my Subaru from Ocean at 2013 year end. They were selling the Impreza's for $1,200 cheaper than any dealer in upstate NY. Great experience. Laura was easy to reach via email and organized the entire sale online. It was a fantastic experience with my busy schedule to be able to talk about our trade, pricing, financing, and op organized the entire sale online. It was a fantastic experience with my busy schedule to be able to talk about our trade, pricing, financing, and options from wherever I was!!! No pressure. When our keys (for another car) fell into the snow, Mark went out in the bitter cold and found them :) Will support this local dealer, but with the reliability of Subaru, I'm hoping not to be in for another few hundred thousand miles. I had done extensive research on several makes and models before settling on a Subaru, and the price offered by Ocean Subaru was right in the range I was looking for. Ben Allen was great to work with, patient and helpful and I never once felt pressured. Ben did not sell us a car, he helped us buy a car, and from the customer's perspective that is a very important distinction. The other staff we worked with also were helpful and friendly. More
