During a recent visit to McGee Toyota, I brought my elderly mother who was in the market for a used vehicle. (by chance we were in the vicinity , McGee was not our intended destination for car shopping elderly mother who was in the market for a used vehicle. He was friendly, knowledgeable, patient,and attentive to mother's desires in a vehicle . She made the purchase that day! Kenny's customer service skills are exemplable! More
Let me preface this by saying: I understand car sales is a shady business, and shame on me for assuming I would be treated the way I treat people. To say that I felt deceived and treated like someone that a a shady business, and shame on me for assuming I would be treated the way I treat people. To say that I felt deceived and treated like someone that accepts any BS they spoke as the truth is an understatement. My experience is likely the result of incredibly poor communication between the sales managers and sales people, combined with a total lack of respect for me as a customer. Let me also add, I was not looking to screw them out of making money. I respect the fact that they are doing a job, and likely have families to support. They deserve to be compensated. Evidently the problem was, I was trying to make a fair deal, rather than a one sided deal filled with outright lies…foolish me!!! Here is the short version, I was looking to buy a used car and ultimately found the one I wanted. I negotiated what I thought was an acceptable price. The car was listed at $15.9k, and we eventually agreed to $14.2k. While filling out the final paper work, my wife noticed that the exact car I was about to buy was priced on the McGee Website for about $14k. Obviously, this was less than my agreed upon price and about $2k less than the salesperson (Jim Duffy) said the car was listed at. After pointing this out, Jim talked to a manager and told me ‘the online price was reduced as soon as he and I agreed to a price. The online price drop is a way for the dealership to drive foot-traffic into the dealership by essentially saying LOOK AT OUR GREAT PRICES.’ I immediately questioned that explanation since it was hard to believe that a website would be updated 5 minutes after he and I verbally agreed to a price. After leaving the dealership, and reading the online listing in more detail, I noticed that web posting said the price was dropped 4 days prior to my visit to the dealership. Basically, I was fed a BS excuse when I caught them trying to screw me. BTW, the car was still showing $14k, 2-3 days after my deal fell through, only to be increased to $15k about 4 days later…funny how that happens. After sending an email to someone, I received a call and an empty apology from Emily Holland (online sales person) with more BS. Their error was a result of the online sales people not talking to the in-person sales people. I guess this happens often, and they are working on those issues (keep working on it). I made them a final offer, and was told I would receive a call back. After not getting one, I called the next day, and to no surprise no one knew of my counter-offer. In the end, we did not make a deal, despite the fact that I was still willing to give them my money. They refused to budge off the price after I caught them living up to their stereotype of sleazy car dealers. They continued to try and muscle and lie to me. My advice to any prospective buyers, these people think you are stupid and will lie to you, and even when caught in a lie rather than saying, ‘we made a mistake let’s see how we can get this deal done,’ they will feed you more BS.
