“I didn’t think it was going to be this complicated…” The last thing my sales representative, Jazper, told me over the phone was…”I didn’t think it was going to be this complicated.” complicated…” The last thing my sales representative, Jazper, told me over the phone was…”I didn’t think it was going to be this complicated.” Certainly not the level of professionalism that I expect while finalizing the delivery of my new vehicle. In fact, it was disrespectful. I would never -Without confirming if I was available and free, Jazper took it upon himself to just select and time to deliver my vehicle the next day. I found this out at 7pm at night (the day before) No phone call, no email saying, “does this date and time work for you?” Just a blind assumption on his part that I have nothing going on and I’ll just drop everything. -When I told Jazper that that I expected the car to be delivered with a full tank of gas upon arrival….he decidedly ignored this sentence in several of my emails, until I had to speak with him on the phone about having gone of his two agents to make this happen. It doesn’t matter that your agents didn’t have a company card on them; the top level service expectation should be the vehicle is delivered in excellent, show room condition with a full tank of gas. -I told Jazper on the phone that I would not be making my downpayment online using my checking account. I said, please send me a credit card authorization form, as I’ve had other dealers accommodate this request in the past. Neither one of my two requests was met with a positive attitude or level of customer service accommodation….instead, “I didn’t think it was going to be this complicated….” I’ll have to call my finance manager and the delivery agents……Yes, Jazper, do that. -I requested that the car get delivered to me in Palm Desert, since I had turned in my only vehicle the day before as part of a M-Benz recall buyback. After some back and forth, they agreed to travel out to me to deliver and sign final paperwork. I had other dealers in the past who have offered this courtesy to me previously, otherwise I wouldn’t have asked. What started the previous day, as a a fairly positive and straightforward exchange of emails, negotiating a MX-5 lease deal, ended up being a surprisingly lackluster and sour experience with Mazda of Escondido and Jazper. Once I signed the lease proposal to accept it, that was when Jazper became aloof and just stopped communicating properly. To highlight one positive experience, I was able to finalize a deal, remotely, that I was satisfied with by communicating via email with Jazper…. Another positive was that Victoria and Daniel, who delivered the car to me this morning were kind, communicative and very pleasant to deal with as I signed paperwork. According to them, Jazper has been with this dealership for about 5 years or so. I’m pretty gobsmacked by that fact. If were to impart any constructive feedback to the dealership, management and employees, it would be this: Treat every sales experience with a customer as though they were checking into a luxury hotel and buying a Rolex wristwatch. Never drop the ball on providing clear, positive, and friendly communication. People may not remember the things that are said…but they will remember how you made them feel, and that impression is everything. Sincerely, J.S More

Again, a loaner vehicle provided and utilized and used for 5 day period. The staff are pleasant to speak with and they clearly work well with each other. What’s not to like? As an older fellow, I have bought an embarrassing number of new and used cars over the years. Attempting to buy a late model used car at Escondido Mazda was certainly not the worst experience I have had, bu of new and used cars over the years. Attempting to buy a late model used car at Escondido Mazda was certainly not the worst experience I have had, but it does rank among the goofiest in recent years. I know, it’s a little silly to complain about poor behavior of car sales people, it’s a lot like getting mad at the cat for eating birds. Although happily, it has been getting better in recent years with so much more competition online and gobs of information readily available for the buyer. Sadly, Misha and Michael at Escondido Mazda didn’t get the memo. They were not competently wicked, but they did roll out all the tired gimmicks from the obnoxious old days. Fibbing with gusto, insisting on a $1500 “bonus” above the posted price to compensate for the little plastic appliques under the door handles ($16.99 on Amazon) and a long list of other patience testing silliness. I suppose they deserve high marks for perseverance, but they ultimately lost the sale when their approach finally morphed from oddly entertaining to just tiresome. And so, I do not recommend considering buying a car from these comical relics of bygone days. Life really is too short, and there are just too many better alternatives in today’s car market.
