August 15th I called Max Motors in Butler about a truck at their Belton location. I asked if they could bring it down for us to look at. They said yes and we set up an appointment for Wednesday mid morning at their Belton location. I asked if they could bring it down for us to look at. They said yes and we set up an appointment for Wednesday mid morning. Wednesday comes and we were dealing with a sick horse so we were running late. I sent the sales man a text, with no reply. So I called the dealership as we leave Pleasanton. They hadn’t brought the truck down. 🚩 #1. We decided to go on over and just talk to them about our trade ins and just touch and feel some trucks. When we get there the salesman I was talking to was out of town (weird, since I set up an appointment with him 🤔) so we were greeted by Blu. “Hey girl! Talk to me, girl!” 🤢 We talk to Blu about what we were looking into doing. We had 2 trade ins, one paid off and one still financed. We had all the finance numbers written down, including payoff amount. We told him we didn’t care how the numbers worked, we only care about the difference, the number we would have to write the check for. Give us a $1 for the Tundra and $19,999 for the Durango, we don’t care as long as the bottom number fit our world. They happen to have a truck similar to the one they were supposed to bring down for us to look at so we took it for a spin. When we get back Blu throws down a paper with trade in amounts, payoffs, office fees, and total finance amount. Darrin points to a number and specifically asks “what’s this number”. Blu reaches over and points to the bottom number and says “don’t worry about anything else besides this number, this is the number you’ll need”. We wanted to go talk in private and talk to the bank so we said we needed our keys to go Walmart and to think things over. It was like pulling teeth to get our keys back. Blu starts saying things like “you aren’t coming back, are you?”. We call the dealership and tell them all is good and we would do the deal on the truck. We get back to the dealership and we sign the 5,000 pieces of paper. Everything is in my name.. they never asked who’s name things needed to be in, who the primary buyer was, nothing. We decline the worthless extended warranties. We got the bank on the phone a couple times, not once did Max Motors EVER talk to our bank to even confirm we had funds 🤯 We unload the Durango, leave keys, put a temp tag on the new truck and off we went. Next morning we head to Butler to bring the Tundra over and some title release papers that needed signed by Darrin’s mom. Things still seem to be normal. Thursday afternoon comes along and our bank (NOT MAX MOTORS) calls us to tell us there’s been a stop of transaction by Max Motors saying they need $13,000 MORE!! We get the envelope out to look at the papers, they gave us 1, yes only 1, copy of ALL those papers we signed. All we were sent home with was the bill of sale 🤔 no copy of the contract at all. We wait until Friday afternoon and still hadn’t heard a word from Max Motors, so we call. Blu tells us he made a mistake and “was confused that day”. He asked us what we wanted to do to fix it. Darrin said “I want to fulfill my end of the contract we signed, I want to send you the x amount we agreed upon.” Blu gets an attitude saying “so you expect us to eat $13k?” Darrin, “We expect you to uphold the contract you signed. When we make a bad business deal, we hustle to make it up in the next transactions.” They get off the phone, and we don’t hear anything more until Monday. Monday afternoon comes and Blu calls. He has a HORRIBLE attitude toward us. Tells us we need to ”talk to our bank”. No need to talk to our bank, we know what we CAN and WANT to do or not do. Our choice was either bring the truck back or pay the extra. No management EVER call. No one EVER apologized. No one EVER wanted to sit down and negotiate THEIR NEGLIGENCE. We told Blu we were going to have an attorney look over the contract before doing anything, but like we told him Friday we were busy running up and down the road Monday and Tuesday so we wouldn’t be able to do anything until Wednesday. Blu replies with “so you’re racking up the miles on our truck? Were you able to do all this running around before our truck?” “Uh yes Blu, we traded in a really nice Durango and have other vehicles, we aren’t even in ‘your’ truck. It’s called work”. Blu says “you knew that number was really low, you should’ve caught it”. Wait, so you, your GM & your Finance Guy all didn’t catch it and SIGNED OFF on it, but we should have?? This is where Darrin told Blu he was done communicating with him and to have a manager call him next time. We had a case, Max Motors also had a case, but is a truck really worth a court battle?? We decided to just give back the truck. Not a prayer would Max Motors get a dime more from us. They seriously never said ” can we sit down and find a middle ground where everyone can be happy?” “We don’t want to lose you as a customer, let’s fix this”. Nothing. It was “pay up”. We were made out to be the crooks, like we somehow pulled one over on them. We NEVER lied, we NEVER hid any information, we PROVIDED EVERYTHING they asked for and we upheld our end the ENTIRE TRANSACTION, but because we wanted to speak to someone about OUR rights in this transaction, suddenly we were a huge burden to them. So when you watch their commercials about being your hometown, good ol’ boy, easiest place to buy a car dealership just know that’s NOT true. More
This is our 2nd vehicle purchased in last year, we always look closer to home but it seems the hour drive to Butler is always worthwhile. Robert was professional, friendly and met our every need. Guy made th look closer to home but it seems the hour drive to Butler is always worthwhile. Robert was professional, friendly and met our every need. Guy made the finance part (worst part) easy and painless as it can be. Frank told me to say he was handsome so here you go Frank. LOL. We love our Grand Wagoneer. More
