CRV has been a challenge - Ripoff pricing for Timing Chain I purchased my 2010 CRV from Mainline Honda. Have serviced it here and at West Chester Honda closer to home. I brought it in for state inspection on I purchased my 2010 CRV from Mainline Honda. Have serviced it here and at West Chester Honda closer to home. I brought it in for state inspection on June 21 and to evaluate check engine light alert. I was surprised that they required $99.95 just to interpret the check engine light (never had a dealer charge for this quick diagnostic of the control module). Service advisor then indicated I needed to replace the timing chain - total estimated cost of $1,518.00. I had an uneasy feeling that this was an end of month push to generate service revenue. I called West Chester Honda and the cost of the same repair is $850.00 (less a coupon of $100 - brings it to half the cost of Mainline!). I'm glad I checked but I am disgusted by the shakedown attempt. I am a longtime Honda customer - the CRV is my fifth Honda product. Between airbags and many other challenges, this has been a high cost of ownership. Lots of headaches. Service advisor was polite. More
