Buyer beware Be warned before you get started with this particular car dealer. Went in last Wednesday to provide support for our son who has been diligently shopp Be warned before you get started with this particular car dealer. Went in last Wednesday to provide support for our son who has been diligently shopping for his first (used) car. We are practiced car buyers and had the capacity to pay cash on the spot based on how things went that day. The experience turned out to be deeply unsatisfactory and unsuccessful for several reasons. To start...a no-haggle price of $15,981. BUT. They told us he would also be on the hook for $700 for window tinting (not included in the no-haggle price). And, another $800 for their GPS/lojack, again not included. You know to be concerned about whether or not a dealer is honest and will negotiate in good faith when there are $1500 in added fees before you even get started. Whatever, we gave it a shot. Son test drove car and loved it, but with some small (disclosed) body damage already present, we decided to address that along with the hidden fees. There was a lot of pressure from the beginning about getting a deal done THAT night, regardless of our concerns or if it was for the best, considering the issues already discussed. After a lot of talking, it seemed possible that they would do the right thing and drop the unwanted adds, but no commitments were made. Also part of the discussion was having them fix the body damage and keeping that included in the asked-for price. In the end, it seemed best to leave at that point and explore other options, which we did. The next day, son talked with salesman and they were able to agree on the original price - which was a fair value - no extra fees for add-ons, and splitting the cost of body repair ($450/$450). Son told him we had a deal. Salesman set up an appointment for the next day, Friday, at 5:30PM to sign paperwork, discuss possible financing and make arrangements for repair and later, delivery of vehicle. Then Friday came. Son gets text from salesman at 5PM - a half hour before the appointment - saying don’t bother to come in, we sold to somebody else. Nice. Too bad about the inconvenience to people who were already on their way, plus your disappointment at not being able to complete a transaction you thought was secure. And the ‘deal’ we thought we had the day before? Turns out that was only an ‘agreement’. In other words, we’re greedy, we didn’t want your business enough to put forth the effort, so get lost. I guess we are better off not going on the hook for thousands of dollars to a business that has issues with good faith, integrity, and high-pressure sales tactics. Who knows how they would have treated us once they had our money. The salesman was unprofessional enough (instead of just letting it go) to text us a picture of sign they have on the wall after we called to complain about the lack of customer service. It explains up-front that you are under pressure to sign and commit to a deal that moment, regardless of it being in your own best interest. If I had my own business, I’d be ashamed to have something like that posted. Good luck to those thinking about buying at Mark KIA. For the record, not all car dealers run their businesses this way. Take the time, go with your gut, and find somebody who will treat you with respect, integrity, and the quality of customer service you deserve. And you do deserve it, for forking over a lot of hard-earned money for something that, while special, can be found on just about every main street in the country. More
