Misleading service department Approximately 4 weeks ago we misplaced our set of keys for our 2006 sequoia. We only had the one key so I called up to maplewood toyota to see what t Approximately 4 weeks ago we misplaced our set of keys for our 2006 sequoia. We only had the one key so I called up to maplewood toyota to see what the cost would be for a 2 keys and a remote. They looked up my vehicle by the vin number as it had previously been there and told me that they'd have to order the clicker and it would be in early the following week. It was late in the week and it was parked in our driveway so not a huge deal to wait a couple days. Due to losing the last master key there was an additional programming charge on top of the regular programming charge and I was told something just shy of $340 for 2 keys, programming, and a key fob. This was quoted by Troy Larson who I believe is an assistant service manager. The next week I called in to check on the remote and they said they had it in stock and I'd have to have the vehicle towed in for them to program the keys and remote since we no longer had the master. They once again confirmed the price and I paid to have it towed from my driveway up to them. Once my vehicle was up there the assistant service manager called me and told me that they hadn't realized the year of the vehicle and that the repair cost would actually be over $1200 because they would have to replace a module since we didn't have a master key. Now keep in mind they looked it up by the vin number to order the key fob the prior week and in every conversation I referred to it as an 06 sequoia. They told me it would be approx $340 atleast twice in the past including on a voicemail. Now that I had spent money to get it towed up to them the price went up 4 fold. Maybe it was an honest mistake, maybe it wasnt. Long story short now that I was looking at a $1200 repair I started looking into my other options and I found a local locksmith that reflashed the module and cut me two new keys for $285. I'd used maplewood toyota in the past for a handful of service work not a ton, but when I went to a dealer I went to them for both of our toyota vehicles. I will not be going back. The excuse that they didnt know the year of the vehicle was completely bogus and they either clearly are not experts on toyotas or they bait and switched me and got me to tow my vehicle up there before quadrupling the price. In my last conversation I told Troy I felt like they owed me the towing fee. I have not seen a check show up for the tow and I have not been contacted about it. More
