Unacceptable used car experience I wouldn't have written this if it weren't for incurring my 3rd large expense on a relatively new used (31K) car purchased from Otto's MINI. It may be I wouldn't have written this if it weren't for incurring my 3rd large expense on a relatively new used (31K) car purchased from Otto's MINI. It may be important to note that prior to writing this review, I sent an email to Otto's MINI staff (including the general manager) with most of the information above and have heard no response from anyone except for Preston Jackson, who offered to do whatever he could. Please beware of buying a used car from Otto's MINI, and beware of some of the staff. When I first purchased the car we had an issue with the checklist that Chad Carey explained away, but it still came off like they were trying to pull one over on us, and they ended up giving us a merch and service credit instead of the lower car cost as a result. Prior to 60,000 miles, I will have replaced the clutch assembly and both front wheel bearings, none of which should happen that early. I only had the car for a year (around 13,000 miles) when the clutch and flywheel needed to be replaced. A new clutch assembly at 44,000? They said it's not under warranty which I understand, however, I have had cheaper cars (a Hyunai Accent that I bought for $6400 new) with manual shift, whose clutch lasted well over 170,000 miles, so it's definitely not me! On other cars I haven't had a wheel bearing replaced before 100,000 miles. The cost of maintenance (even with a very much appreciated discount off of the clutch assembly of $3800) has been about $100 per month since we've owned the car. That's OVER AND ABOVE oil changes, spark plugs, tires, etc. which are typical maintenance items. Had I known I would've bought a better car somewhere else with a large monthly payment!! The additional fact that I've owned the car for less than half of its mileage and had these types of repairs is incredibly frustrating. In my 34 years of owning cars, I have NEVER had a car with this many problems, not to mention at this mileage. It has not been unusual for our cars to last way beyond 100K before any of these issues even show up. My only conclusion is that either the MINI Countryman is a worthless car, OR Otto's MINI sold me a lemon, OR the previous owner was the worst owner ever, literally driving it into the ground and Otto's didn't catch it, none of which is acceptable. After the first wheel bearing needed replacement (and I'd previously had the clutch assembly replaced), I went to trade it in last year, informing Otto's that I definitely didn't trust the car. My wife and I spent the obligatory 2 hours in the showroom and found one that we liked. We finally decided to go for the car so I sent my financial application in. While technically I had not yet provided the deposit (that Otto's say you need), it could be strongly argued that one does not send in financial information along with an email commiting to purchase the car if they are not serious. And then - I was notified FIVE HOURS AFTER I sent in my financials that the car was sold. Up until then I thought I was buying the car!! Perhaps there was nothing illegal about what they did, but it appears completely unethical. My summation is that they kept my offer/application as a reserve and sold the car for more money, using the lack of deposit as their "excuse" for not following through with me. At best, it's worse than bad business, as they already had to have known at that point I was fully committed to pursuing the vehicle. To top it all off, the gas consumption for the vehicle is significantly different (20% less MPG than the manufacturer's mileage rate). I've tried every style of driving in an attempt to improve it, and every attempt has been disappointingly unsuccessful. Needless to say that based on my experiences, I will not be buying another car, used or new from Otto's, and I will be looking to post as many negative reviews on websites, social media, etc. as I can find. In addition, everyone I communicate with will be hearing about it. Wherever and whenever I find an outlet, I will let people know in hopes that no one else has to experience the same frustrations and inconveniences I have. On the only positive note - Preston Jackson has done whatever has been in his power to assist, and I have appreciated that. Unfortunately his power has its limitations. More

He made sure my new mirror caps were put on, and my phone synced to my "Sheldon" Cooper before we left the dealership. I really liked how Derek didn't try to push me to decide on anything. He answered all of my questions, gave advice and opinions when asked, but was not a typical "pushy" sales person. More
