There are eight Subaru dealerships in Chicago and surrounding area, none of which are normal trading partners for us. We don’t trade with them because of recurring incidents like this one. Due to the customer’s specific requests and time restraints, we attempted to secure the vehicle. The trading store later sold the car, leaving us to attempt to find another. The next closest vehicle was in the Dallas area, farther than we would normally go to transport a car. It is also a considerably longer distance, and obviously, higher cost. When the customer arrived, their sales representative was not in. Another representative, unfamiliar with their situation, tried to get things worked out for them, to no avail. A factory order was once again offered and discussed, but at that point we were unsure of how to proceed due to all the complications that had occurred. In addition, the complications were making all involved on edge. Other than offering another color, or option combination we had exhausted all of our options for this couple. We apologized several times, and explained as much as we reasonably could to our customer during this time. No other sales people in the dealership were aware of the private business being conducted between the customer and their sales representative. They were waiting for other customers to arrive, and it wouldn’t have been appropriate to interfere in the situation. Our only goal was to try and obtain a nearly impossible car to make this customer happy. Almost 100% of the time when we go outside of our zone to obtain a car for a customer we are successful, and will continue to assist customers in this way in the future.
