He was so responsive to all our questions and we never felt like we were getting a "hard sell" like we did in our multiple prior car purchases. We felt the price we received was super competitive for a very lightly "used" car. Having Elmer onsite to facilitate our policy transfer with Allstate was so great! More
Great Experience I purchased a 2017 Subaru Impreza from folks at Liberty Auto City and was very pleased with this hassle-free car buying experience. Immediately after expressing an interest in the Impreza on the Subaru website, Terri Israel reached out to me to see exactly what I wanted. She forwarded that information to their sales staff, and I arranged a test drive. Upon my arrival, the front desk already knew what I wanted. Charles Perchak took me on a test drive and answered all my questions- but NO pressure. The more research I did, the more it was apparent I needed to move quickly, as the Imprezas were moving off the lot. Charles was on his days off, but no worries- Patrick Kozyra graciously filled in and worked out the details on getting the Impreza of my dreams from another dealership, since Liberty's inventory didn't match the options and accessories I desired. Patrick and Elmer Hansen put together a very fair price for the Impreza, and worked with me on my trade-in. Charles picked-up the ball and assembled all my paperwork and facilitated the purchasing process. He showed me how to operate all the many bells and whistles of my beautiful new car, and walked me over to finance guru Scott Cogan. Scott explained my financing options, extended warranty options, and again- NO pressure. I spoke with Chris G. from the service department to ask about any break-in period on the vehicle. He was so helpful, as well. And after my purchase, I received a very nice e-mail from Customer Relations Manager, Agata Klos, ensuring I had a good experience. All in all, I highly recommend this friendly, knowledgeable staff. Anyone looking for a new car in the Lake County/IL area, give these folks a chance to help you out; you'll be happy you did! More
Caring, Dependable, Genuine, Honest...TOP NOTCH! Where do I start? I purchased my first Subaru from Liberty Auto City in 2002...a Subaru WRX from Elmer Hansen. Over the years, I have purchased many vehicles for my personal use, assisted friends with multiple Subaru purchases and most recently purchased two gently used Subaru Crosstreks for our office from Craig Huber. Craig and Elmer have never disappointed. Their follow through and dedication are second to none. Their pricing is very competitive and most of the time, they have everyone else beat by hundreds, if not more...YOU CAN'T GO WRONG WITH CRAIG AND LIBERTY AUTO CITY. Definitely worth the drive of 240 miles and 4 hours round trip from Wisconsin for each purchase. More
I've bought more than 5 cars from this Dealership. As the title says I have bought many cars from this dealership. Every experience working with this dealership has been nothing but positive. They make As the title says I have bought many cars from this dealership. Every experience working with this dealership has been nothing but positive. They make the process completely painless. No stupid games that most dealerships play. No pressure to buy when looking. It is how car buying should be. Unfortunately, Liberty is the exception and not the rule. I still make sure that I am getting good deal and I do compare pricing and every time I purchase a car. In the end I know that my job is to get myself the best price and ultimately the salesman's job is to get as much for the car as possible. However every time that I have checked pricing Liberty has come either lower or even with other offers that I got. Elmer Hansen the Sales Manager lays it to me straight when we get to discussing pricing. "Here is the price that I can offer you the car for that is fair for you and let's me make money to keep the dealer in business". That is usually all that goes into the negotiation. No mind games, no hassles, no "let me go talk to my manager" nonsense. A friend of mine who I recently sent to Liberty had a 5 hour fight with another Subaru dealer and in the end walked away. With Liberty he had chosen, ordered and committed to purchasing a new Forester within an hour. He was amazed and his profession is purchasing for a major Fortune 200 company. One time I asked Elmer that if I left the dealership would the price he offered me no longer be good. He looked at me with a puzzled look on his face and said, "Well....why would the offer change? Go do your homework and if you can get this for a better price then I recommend you buy it from whoever that is". How many car sales managers have said that to you? Sure enough I could not find better pricing and bought the car from Liberty. When buying my wife's car Elmer offered me to take it home for the weekend and see if I wanted it. Is said to him "oh, I see the puppy dog close, eh?" He smiled at me and said "Uh...sure...whatever". When I brought it back he asked, "Did you like it?" I said "yes" and gave him back the keys. He took the keys and said "well, let me know if you want to buy one" and walked away. I was flabbergasted. I said "wait, aren't you going to give me the high pressure sales pitch?" he turned looked puzzled at me and said "uh....no, that was not what I was planning, but if you want me to I can" He smiled and said, If you want the car you know where it is" and went on his way. My wife and I just looked at each other, mouths agape as I was expecting a knife fight and got nothing. A week later we bought the car. My most recent purchase was in 2015. I bought a "brand new $40,000 WRX STI Limited" and I had no problems getting my car. I had to order it and have it built and shipped to the dealership. Three long months I waited. I was constantly pestering my sales guy, Craig Huber for three months and every time he was patient and happy to help me track where the car was. When it arrived, he sent me a picture via text that said "look what showed up!". Craig, my salesman is more like a buddy now. How many sales people do you know that you actually want to hang around with? I live in Wisconsin but I drive down to Illinois to Liberty to get my cars serviced by them. The service staff is fantastic and always courteous and treat me like a friend. Almost every issue that I have gone in to get fixed gets fixed correctly the first time. Now when it's time to buy a car my wife asks "which cars can we buy from Liberty" and then we narrow it down from there. As I said, this dealer is something special, the excepetional one both from a sales and service standpoint. In a sea of mostly terrible, traditional car "stealerships". Unless something goes seriously awry, I will likely keep recommending these guys to family and friends More

Obviously went to the clos I started my search for a new Subaru Forester online, and was inundated with multiple dealerships calling and emailing me. Obviously went to the closest dealers first, where we experienced the stereotypical hard pressure sale, as well as an almost a condescending attitude to our needs. The only dealer that truly listened to us was Liberty Subaru. Starting online with Mike Croft - who is just about the most straight forward and honest salesman ever, we discussed our needs - understood why pricing was what it was, and moved dierctly to the right fit for us. We settled on an exact price, and drove the 33 miles to get what amounted to friendly, knowledgeable, and courteous service. Charles Perchak, our onsite salesman, was the total opposite of pushy; easy going and accommodating. In fact - the entire team from Elmer Hansen to Mike in delivery/service and Jed in finance were fantastic to deal with. And thank you to Samantha as well! The process continues to be overly long - but it was well worth the 33 mile trip to find a dealership of this quality! More
I purchased a brand new $40,000 Subaru Impreza WRX STi from this dealer. At first everyone at the dealership was friendly and accommodating. After purchase, things changed. It started with the finance from this dealer. At first everyone at the dealership was friendly and accommodating. After purchase, things changed. It started with the finance guy trying to convince me to extend the term of the loan. Understandable, he probably makes more money on loans that end up costing the consumer more, but reprehensible in an economic climate wrought with unrecoverable consumer credit debt. My real issue came when the salesperson was showing me the vehicle. He reiterated that the vehicle takes PREMIUM GASOLINE ONLY. Then sent me with the porter who proceeded to fill the car with regular 87 octane gas. I stopped him and asked why he ignored the bold type on the gas cap that says PREMIUM GASOLINE ONLY. He replied that he was instructed to put 87 in all cars, even those requiring premium. Upon returning to the dealership, I brought this to the attention of the salesperson. He said that I could leave it overnight and they would drain it and fill it with 93. Beyond not trusting them to do this, I drove 70 miles to the dealership and didn't have time to do that again. They asked what would make it right, I replied that nothing would, but asked for a roof rack in exchange (retail $170). Salesperson said he would check with his boss and get back to me. That was a month ago, no word from anyone at the dealership since. Using 87 octane gas in vehicles that require premium can pull timing and cause engine knocking. I won't go back for service or another purchase. More
I am writing this after I saw a bad review about Craig from jwenzel(there are 2 Craig's that work there, but the Craig I dealt with was great, so I will write this anyways). After I had some so-so expe from jwenzel(there are 2 Craig's that work there, but the Craig I dealt with was great, so I will write this anyways). After I had some so-so experiences with Nissan dealerships, I decided to try and test drive a Forester b/c of the good things I've heard about it. I was warmly greeted, Craig Huber did a great job of showing me all aspects of the car, and was just very nice and a low-pressure salesman. He offered me a bottle of water and we got down to discussing the price. He was willing to offer me below invoice, with my truecar.com quotes that I brought, and he even let me know that I could discount the price a little more based on certain things that I didn't need from the package(auto-dimming compass/mats/etc... but that I would still be getting with the car. Overall, I got a good price on the Forester, there was no pressure at all, and the dealership was very low-pressure in general. I could tell that it was more of a family-like atmosphere than some of the Nissan dealerships I went to. I would recommend Craig Huber to anyone looking to buy a Subaru from this dealership. What was initially a stressful process due to my skepticsm of car salesmen, Craig proved that he is one of the good guys. More
So I find a Subaru Impreza WRX (Still listed on Autotrader at this time at this dealership), and I submit an inquiry for it. Kathy then calls me back and leaves me a voicemail. I call her back and Autotrader at this time at this dealership), and I submit an inquiry for it. Kathy then calls me back and leaves me a voicemail. I call her back and ask her if the vehicle is still available and she says yes, what time were you thinking of coming down today? I said I work until 1 and can be down there by 2:30 (1 hour drive). So when I get there, everyone is sitting down doing nothing except the guy at the front desk on the phone. I walk in there and Craig is eating pizza and Kathy has no clue what's going on, 5 minutes later she realizes that she had an appointment with me and says hi. So a little upset I say can I see the car please? She says sure Craig will go out and get the keys for you, and even offers me a water because I was waiting so long. So Craig goes outside and comes back with no keys, and says "sorry the car was already sold". I literally thought he was joking and started laughing. And then I realize, he must of been serious because he has no keys. Without even saying sorry to me, i just walk out and drive an hour back home. What a joke of a dealership, horrible salesman, horrible service, horrible everything they will never own my business and I'm getting my word out to others to never go there you will have a bad experience. All their customer testimonials on their website are fake obviously. More

Called Liberty Auto City and talked to Craig Huber to make sure the car actually existed. We agreed on a price over the phone so my wife and I drove 1 hour to buy the SUV. I thought of a dozen things that could go wrong and only one that could go right. Customer Service: great. Craig was busy with another couple so the manager, whose name I never got but he knows who he is, gave us keys for the Forester we were interested in and told us to take it for a drive. Quality of Work: great. This white SUV had just arrived and was still covered in dust and grime from its trip. Dealership cleaned it up nicely and Craig went thru the various functions, buttons and knobs giving us a basic introduction to the Forester. Friendliness: great. Employees kept us informed and made us feel welcome. Overall Experience: good. They were having a good day in sales and, therefore, it took a while to cash out. No problem, we took our car out to dinner to avoid the line. Price: great. Businesses are entitled to make a profit. That's how they stay in business. Do your homework! The best deal and dealer for you is seldom the closest. Do your homework! So the only thing that could go right actually did. Craig made this "trip to the dentist" painless. They made money, we saved money. My wife got a white Forester with a moonroof and heated seats, a combination almost nonexistant in northern Illinois/southern Wisconsin. I did my homework. More
