I will go as far as to say that if at all possible, even if I were to move out of state that I would buy my car, truck or suv from Legends Toyota only. It is the very best place to buy a Toyota or Scion. Hands Down! More
I stopped in the dealership, "just looking". I met Leo who did a great job of showing me options for the car I had in mind. We took a test drive around part of Wyandotte County Lake exiting onto 435 and back to the dealership. This route gave a good overview of how the car handles in a variety of situations. I took advantage of the sign it and drive it option. Since I chose a different color and a few options not on the test car Leo had the car sent in from a sister dealership the next day. More

UPDATE: Steve Kurtz, the owner of the dealership, UPDATE: Steve Kurtz, the owner of the dealership, contacted me shortly after I posted this review. He was courteous and respectful, and explained UPDATE: Steve Kurtz, the owner of the dealership, contacted me shortly after I posted this review. He was courteous and respectful, and explained he would refund me the depreciated value of the service contract, and what I spent in interest and taxes on the deal. I received a check in the mail within 3 business days. I can now confidently say that this dealership did the right thing, and I will continue to do business with them. I attribute the problem to a few employees, rather than the dealership as a whole. I hope this review will help other consumers to think twice before they trust this dealership because of their reputation. While I am glad that other people have had a good experience here, I was almost cheated out of thousands of dollars (and have already lost a few hundred dollars) because of a fraudulent business deal contracted at this dealership. First, I did extensive research on this dealership before I walked in the door. I chose it because of its superb ratings online, and because they had a car on the lot that I had been looking into (the previous owner had taken impeccable care of it). I looked on KBB for the price range, and saw that the Prius on the lot was marked up a bit, but not by a lot. When I called the dealership about the car, Ray Kohlman began to work on securing financing for me. He was friendly, and I was pleased with his efforts. Although I am a young, fresh-out-of-college, first-time buyer without established credit, he said he would be able to find a lien holder. When I arrived at the dealership two days later, I was told I had not been approved yet. Regardless, Ray suggested I buy a brand new Prius instead of the used one I had my eye on. This concerned me, and I firmly declined. I did not want to be saddled with that much debt. I then asked about the marked-up price of the vehicle: They were selling it for $11,000 (Kelly Blue Book said $9,966). I was told that the information I had looked at was inaccurate because this model was "more special." (I should have brought the printed KBB report, since I went back to KBB after the sale to find that I had been duped.) I relented, and returned to the lobby to wait for my contract to be drafted up. Then I waited. Finally, after an hour, Dean Nowe called me into his office. He complimented my intelligence. (I should have known that fulsome flattery was a tactic of deception). He then pushed the contract before me and said very clearly, "We found you a loan, but you will need to buy a service contract in order to secure your financing." He said that it was the smart thing to do, and because I was smart, I would buy it. Dean explained that because my credit was poor, the lien-holder needed assurance that I would not default on the loan. The service contract would mitigate the risk of buying a used vehicle, but I shuddered at the price: $2,250. The APR on my loan was also 13.9%, an astronomically high interest rate. The length: 5 years. I knew that I would be paying a lot of interest on this service contract. However, I needed a car, I wanted this car, and I was unable to get a cosigner. I knew I could afford the monthly payments, so I agreed. The next day, I took the car to a third-party mechanic. I was told the vehicle was in great shape. I was glad I did not purchase a lemon, and began using the car all of the time (and I love it). Last week, after reading a Consumer Reports article, I second-guessed the terms of the contract. First, I looked through the fine print. There was no mention of a necessary extended-warranty in order to ensure financing. Then, I called my lien-holder. I was told that I had been lied to. At this point, I have already paid hundreds of interest on an extended warranty that I did not need. After doing some math, I also discovered that I would save thousands of dollars over the life of my loan the worth of the service contract was deducted from the principal of my loan. Furious, I called Legends, and politely explained the situation to JaVan Clayton. I demanded the cancellation of the extended warranty, and a reimbursement on the money I had already paid in interest. Instead of obliging, I was asked, "Are you sure you want to expose yourself to that risk?" I was also told to come into the dealership to sign the papers. At this point, I had no trust in these salesmen, and assumed that they were attempting to convince me to keep the service warranty through scare tactics. I refused, and asked for the cancellation forms to be e-mailed to me. Again, I was warned, "Are you sure you want to expose yourself to that risk?" I said, "It doesn't matter what I want. What matters is that Dean Nowe committed fraudulent behavior and I deserve your cooperation." The contract was emailed my way a few hours later, along with a "free oil change," and I signed it and returned it. A week after (yesterday), I called the lien-holder and the extended warranty contractor to ensure that the paperwork had gone through. The warranty contractor said it had, and that Legends should have been refunded the money today. Capital One let me know that Legends would be cutting them the check. I then e-mailed JaVan to let him know. He said it would take "90 days to process" (even though the form I signed said refunds would be given within six weeks). I have also tried to call Daryl Posey, the head of financing, but he has not returned my calls. I am now going to call Legends again to make sure that I get this taken care of immediately. I also plan on reporting them to the BBB, Attorney General, and Secretary of the State. I would not recommend that anyone does business with this dealership until Dean Nowe, Ray Kohlman, (and maybe Daryl Posey) are removed from their positions. There is no excuse for deceiving a consumer; they participated unethical and illegal behavior. More
