I went to LEE auto mall in Auburn expecting to purchase a used vehicle. When I left I was driving a brand new 2014 RAM truck! I went in as a first car buyer and got the best customer service I had ever received after going through several dealerships. Kyle gave me all his attention as a customer and made sure I got a car I wanted service I had ever received after going through several dealerships. I made my first visit to Lee Nissan Topsham on Friday, 11/8/2013. I had begun looking at vehicles a few weeks earlier and knew that I would be faced with some new challenges in terms of financing. My cred 11/8/2013. I had begun looking at vehicles a few weeks earlier and knew that I would be faced with some new challenges in terms of financing. My credit was badly damaged during my divorce and I had no experience with sub-prime financing as all of my prior vehicle purchases had been made using conventional lending. Needless to say, I was nervous about what I would be faced with. My first contact at Lee was with salesman Scott Clement. Scott was friendly and professional and was very helpful in beginning the process of selecting a vehicle that would fit my needs and my budget based on my situation. We discussed my income information, got a financing approval and I took a test drive in a 2012 Toyota Camry. A week or so later I decided I was ready to make my purchase. I went into the dealership on 11/20/2013 and worked with sales manager Dean Walker as Scott was off that evening. I brought with me all of the documentation needed for the purchase and the process was very quick and easy. I test drove and selected a 2012 Camry, traded in my 2007 Chrysler Pacifica which I owner outright and provided an additional $1,000 down payment, was quickly walked through the paperwork and told I was approved for financing through Capital One and I was in and out of the dealership in less than an hour. I was happy with my vehicle and felt fortunate to have the opportunity to begin rebuilding my credit while paying for it. Nine days later on 11/29 I received a call from Scott at the dealership. He had received notification from Capital One requesting further documentation of my income. This didn't come as a huge surprise to me as I work two jobs and co-own a property rental business and in addition receive child support payments and separate maintenance. I was a bit concerned when Scott told me that my financing application had been flagged to Capital One's fraud department. This was confusing to me as Dean had told me my financing had been approved.but also knew my income was not simple and straight forward and I was willing and prepared to provide any documentation requested so this could be quickly resolved. I left work early that day and went to the dealership so that I could provide the six month's of bank statements Capital One had requested. I even sat down and highlighted my payroll transactions in an effort to make anything in question a little easier to decipher. Scott was once again friendly and helpful and willing to answer any questions I had and after my conversation with him I was confident everything had been resolved. I heard nothing more from Lee, so on 12/2 I was getting ready to register my vehicle so I decided to email Dean to make sure everything had been squared away with Lee and Capital One. I received an abrupt email back from him telling me that in order to "keep me in the car" he needed additional documentation. This was really alarming to me as I had no idea that there was a possibility I wouldn't be able to "stay" in my car. I had promptly submitted to any and all requests Lee had made for financial documentation and was communicative and cooperative throughout the whole process. I was left wondering why Dean had allowed me trade in my vehicle and leave the lot with a new one if my financing was not fully in place, as it had become clear to me that it was not. I talked to my parents about what was happening and they encouraged me to secure financing through my credit union and offered to co-sign if needed. I emailed to Dean to let him know and requested the payoff amount on the vehicle so I could put in my loan application at my credit union. Dean refused to tell me what the payoff amount was and told me that he was "stuck with me driving around in a free car" and went on to threaten legal action against me (again, this was said in an email which I have saved). I had done nothing to this point to warrant that kind of response from him. I had gone above and beyond to be cooperative and resolve any issues that had arisen with Capital One and when I finally exhausted myself doing that, I secured financing on my own to remedy the situation. I was absolutely insulted by how I was treated by Dean Walker. What began as a really positive buying experience ended as a negative and degrading one. In the end, I financed the vehicle through my credit union and went back to the dealership to complete the revised paperwork as necessary. To be perfectly honest, I never wanted to walk back into that dealership again after the way I was treated by Dean and after my last visit I never plan to. After my experience I would never be able to recommend Lee to anyone interested in making a vehicle purchase. As a business owner myself, I know what value a strong professional reputation holds and believe in giving others the opportunity to make things right. I hope this information is helpful to Lee in improving the service their dealership provides so that future experiences like mine can be prevented. More
I would recommend everyone to purchase their vehicles at Lee Auto Mall. I had been to a few car dealerships before I purchased my truck and the sales people were not as nice and helpful that Lee Auto Mall i Lee Auto Mall. I had bad credit from my past however a good paying job for the last two years. I needed a car BAD and was pointed to Lee Credit Express in Lewiston a few towns from where i live. Kyle listened to my budget and credit concerns and in two days had me in the car I wished for. I know for every good car experence story out there, there are five scary one's HOWEVER not with Kyle Hamel!!! Just go in and talk to him... I'm SUPER HAPPY I did!!
