First, I did my homework. I researched and found the right price for me with all the rebates. Custom-tailored my payment terms. Communicated what I wanted over the internet. Agreed. Went to Larson showroom. Test-drove the car. Signed the finance papers in 12 minutes at most. Then, drove my brand new car Sonata home. I could not believe that there are people at Larson who are that candid, honest, respectful, courteous, unbelievably efficient and sincerely straightforward. Their internet sales is outstanding in all aspects. Would you like to experience all what I said? Speak with the internet sales executive: Michael Heckelsberg and get an awesome deal!!!! More
If I could give this place negative stars I would. We were ready to purchase a used vehicle. We went online and saw that Larson Hyundai had some 2013 Sonatas for sale. And we love the Seahawks and Russel were ready to purchase a used vehicle. We went online and saw that Larson Hyundai had some 2013 Sonatas for sale. And we love the Seahawks and Russell Wilson who promotes Larson Automotive group. We called and talked to the salesperson Shay. (In my opinion the only positive part of this experience) Since we live over 4 hours away we wanted to make sure everything was fine with our financing. We had gotten pre-approved through a major finance company (with zero down) and Larson was one of their preferred dealers. According to the finance company we only had to bring a code to the dealer and we would get the pre-arranged amount and interest rate. I asked Shay about the code and she said no problem. We setup a time on Sunday. Once we arrived at the dealer Shay let us drive the Sonata we were interested in. According to the online description this vehicle only had 17,491 miles on it. My wife loved it. When we got back to the dealers I gave her the code we had from the finance company. The finance manager came out and expressed some dismay as he didn’t know about the code we had. He offered to add my wife on the credit application to get a better interest rate. When he came out with the offer from the same finance company we had gone through for the pre-approval the interest rate he had was almost 5% above what we thought we were pre-approved for as well as requiring a $4000 down payment. (In hindsight we should have gotten up and left right then) I even got online and logged onto the finance company website to show them the rate we were pre-approved for and to show them we did not have to have a down payment. The finance manager still couldn’t figure it out to get us the deal we had pre-approval for. After much back and forth he obtained a deal through another finance company for almost the same rate and only $1500 down. Some may think why didn’t I walk away. We had driven 4 hours and my wife loved the car. Mind you, this was after 3-4 hours of negotiation. During the many conversations the finance manager mentioned we were covered from front bumper to back bumper. Anything, glass, trim, etc… The word anything was mentioned several times. When we finally got in to sign the contract I wasn’t paying much attention. We had negotiated what I thought was a fair price for the vehicle plus our money down and our trade-in. The amount financed was well below the KBB price. Or so I thought. This is where I messed up and wasn’t paying attention. I didn’t check the bottom line nor did the finance manager explain or point out any additional charges. My fault entirely for being so trusting. After getting the vehicle and starting home (about an hour from Larson with 3 hours to go) I was playing around with the odometer settings as it shows the mpg. I noticed that the vehicle had over 21,000 miles on it instead of the 17,491 miles as stated online and more importantly as stated on the report that is sent to the state. I thought that was strange. After getting home that night I looked over the contract as I was starting to get suspicious with the weird mileage report. Unknown to me, and with no explanation at all, the finance manager added $2000 for a service contract and $500 for a theft protection plan. Neither which I asked for, nor was it explained to me at signing. Never once throughout the entire 4 hour ordeal did I ever hear $2000 or $500 mentioned. Not one time. Yes, I should have checked. However, I am an honest and trusting person. I don’t take advantage of people and I expected the same from Larson. The finance manager never pointed out the additional charges. I believe that the finance manager added on the $2500 as they would benefit financially. There is no way that I would have agreed to an additional service contract (with $100 deductible for each occurrence) when the Sonata had the remaining 10 year, 100,000 mile warranty already. And the service contract does not cover everything as mentioned to both of us in our negotiations. And I wouldn’t have agreed to the additional $500 theft protection plan. It is a horrible policy. That is why I have full coverage through my insurance coverage. In addition 3 weeks after we bought the car during our recent cold weather the low tire pressure light came on. My wife was alone (over 3 hours away) in a not very nice place when they came on. Luckily a Good Samaritan helped at the gas station. 3 of the 4 tires were dangerously low. When I got a hold of Tom at Larson and asked him about this he became defensive and said since the low tire light wasn’t on when we left the dealer they must have been ok. I asked him when the last time the tires were checked. He hemmed and hawed and finally said when it was certified. WHICH WAS 9 MONTHS BEFORE WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE! He of course blamed the cold weather. I maintained that if they would have been checked the day we bought it then my wife would have never been put in a dangerous position. How you can sell a car to someone and not have it checked for those types of things is beyond me. Relying on service 9 months previously seems incompetent at best. And someone drove it for 4000 miles so instead of having an oil change in 7500 miles I have to do it in 3500. Don’t get me wrong. We love the car. Hyundai is a good brand. And the price we negotiated and the trade-in we got I thought was fair. However, I cannot in all honesty recommend anyone buying a car from Larson Hyundai. It took almost 3 weeks for anyone in authority to get back to me. And they refused to do anything but cancel my $2000 service contract which I could have done myself. Tom at Larson refused to refund the $500 Anti-Theft contract which was never explained to me nor pointed out at signing. And which I don’t need. In all this Shay our salesperson was wonderful. I would buy a car from her anytime. I hope she can get another job somewhere else that cares about their customers. Larson Hyundai on South Tacoma Way obviously does not. More
