Questionable Service Charges ON November 15, 2019, I took my 2003 Toyota Sequoia into the LHM Service department for four (4) issues. The first was a simple oil change; second to ON November 15, 2019, I took my 2003 Toyota Sequoia into the LHM Service department for four (4) issues. The first was a simple oil change; second to fix rear hatch (door) that would not open; third to replace the telescoping antenna (broken at a drive through car wash); fourth repair/replace the drivers seat lower side cover. This was my first experience at this LHM Toyota location so I have no past experiences to compare this with. Upon my arrival for my 0800 appointment, I completed the requested sheet out at the request of the first service department representative that I was approached by. After completing this form I proceeded into the waiting area until my vehicle was ready. Just short of 1000 hours, while still in the waiting area, I received a phone call from a LHM Service representative who wanted to discuss the estimates to do the requested work. My totals were as follows: $613.51 (rear hatch handle/hatch latch assembly); $737.26 (Antenna mast and motor assembly); $624.72 (Driver front seat left hand lower side cover). In addition was the cost for the oil change. To my shock these totals were provided to me. The reason I say to my shock is that in 2013 I had replaced the same antenna mast with new antenna mast for a total price of $74.13 @ the LHM Toyota on 10401 Copper Ave. NE. I do not know what an average cost and time would be to replace a plastic cover on the drivers seat but $624.72 seemed hugely inflated (I could be wrong). Then comes the price of the actual work that I had completed, the oil change and repairing the rear hatch. Let me provide a timeline to better explain; 0800 arrived for my scheduled appointment; 0950 (est. I can locate exact time on cellphone if needed but this was definitely close) I received a phone call from the service department to go over the cost for the requested work. I notified the service representative that I was in the lobby waiting and that we can discuss in person. After being informed of all the costs I selected only to do the oil change and the rear door latch ($740.51) of which I felt was extremely high, but I needed to have it completed so opted for these to be done. At 1056 hours (est.) I was approached by service representative that my work had been completed and that we can go over the charges. At this time I was informed my charges totaled $740.51; in this total was a charge of $390 for three (3) hours of labor. I questioned this labor charge to the LHM service representative who said that replacing that rear door latch takes time. I didn't proceed to challenge this cost any more at this time but instead paid the total. After further reflection, I cannot understand the labor charges for the following reason: I gave the keys to my vehicle over to LHM service department at 0800 hours; I received a phone call from them at approximately 0950 hours to discuss what the charges would be if I selected to have them done; at approximately 1056 hours my vehicle work was completed and ready for me to take. So I was charged for the whole three hours my vehicle was at the LHM service department, but the work based on the timeline only took approximately one hour to complete? Additionally, to replace a antenna mast that in 2013 cost me $74.13 now is estimated at $737.26 (which could include the motor assembly indicated on the shop notes provided; of which I didn't need). I am not completely sure LHM Toyota didn't take advantage of me during this visit. I can say that I do not ever plan on going back to LHM Toyota @ 5995 Alameda Blvd. NE in the future. I must also say that not all things were bad during this experience Mr. Damiano Vassaw, who was the service representative, was extremely courteous and helpful. I had purchased the rear door latch cable two days prior at this locations parts department and asked if they could use it and not charge me for another one. Upon completion of the work Mr. Vassaw walked me through the operation of the rear door repair when we noticed that the new cable I had purchased was never used. He then walked with me to the parts department and made sure I received a refund for that part. Extremely nice of him. More
