Diagnostic disagreement I authorized a diagnostic for a knocking sound coming from engine compartment. I had a scheduled appointment at 8am on Friday morning and truck was dr I authorized a diagnostic for a knocking sound coming from engine compartment. I had a scheduled appointment at 8am on Friday morning and truck was dropped off on time. It was after 5 pm and I had not received a call from service department. When I finally called, was put on hold for 15 min. Service Tech told me a fan clutch was the issue and it would be 1100.00 dollars and coyldnt repair until Tuesday. I disagreed with the diagnostics and said I would just pickup my truck. I NEVER refused to pay the diag fee. I JUST disagreed with the initial diagnostics, and the suggested repair. Service Director took a defensive attitude about diag results, stated he stood behind service tech diag, but said I didnt owe anything since I disagreed. I did not realize at the time when i picked up truck and that the release ticket I signed stated "Customer refused to pay". That was NEVER the case! Had truck repaired elsewhere. It was not the fan clutch! It was the belt and/or belt tensioner, both was replaced at same time, $90 tensioner, $43 belt. Plus 1 hr labor. Far short of $1100.00. Slack in belt was allowing the tensioner to bottom out under load causing the knocking sound. I feel I remained courteous at all times, but think Service Director was a little short with me and didnt really offer any choice except to take his recommendation for repair or take my truck elsewhere. I chose the later and glad I did. More
