Cade, I spoke with you regarding this transaction, as well as my preowned manager and my finance manager. We had taken 2 deposits on this ’04 Toyota, and yours was the second deposit. The end buyer who had the initial deposit had an issue with his funds at first but was able day two to sort it out and consummate his purchase. As discussed, apparently, our salesperson assumed that the first buyer was not going to be able to conclude his transaction when he accepted your deposit. I’m glad as you expressed on the phone, that you were able to cancel all your plans without a penalty. Again, I apologize for the confusion, but there certainly was no bait and switch. Mr. Williams, Thank you for your feedback. If you had been upfront with us initially regarding your need to finance, rather than telling us you were paying cash and flying to Florida, we could have eliminated much of what you considered to be wasted time. As we explained several times after you let us know you needed to arrange financing, we have a fiduciary responsibility with our lenders that require we witness the signing of loan documents and establish one's identity. This is for your protection. We also explained many times the issues we have accepting an out of state loan check requiring us to record liens in another lender's favor. In your case we then had to attempt to perfect registration in California, a state that requires a vehicle inspection prior to any of the registration documents being processed. That meant the car had to get from Florida to San Francisco and complete the inspection process before we could begin the process of registration, all the while someone's money is being held up. You chose not to make this your money. We have no guarantee your lender would fund us prior to them receiving the registration documents, much less a California title. We were told we would receive a cashier's check with no stipulations from your credit union and that wasn't the case. All I heard from my employees was that you were demanding, belligerent, and condescending, and by your own admission, we were the second Florida dealer with which you had a problem. Sometimes we just have to end the process and move on, which is what we've done in your case. We have friends and acquaintances at many of the more than two dozen Land Rover retailers in your home state of California.
