Great experience - Lee is everything you want your car dealer to be!! I almost purchased a new discovery from another dealer and glad I didn’t. Everyone was very accommodating while they replaced my rear left tire that got punctured and went flat. Joe quoted me nearly $2500 to have it inspected; $170 for inspection, $750 for 80K mile service (it only had 52K miles), and another $1,300 for arm bushings and associated work. When I balked at the price for the arm bushing work, Joe agreed to let me take it to my local mechanic (who charged me $700) and then bring it back for LR MainLine to put the inspection sticker on the vehicle (which I paid for). After my local mechanic was finished, I brought the vehicle back to LR MainLine and was told that they needed to confirm that it was done properly. Fair enough. 30 minutes later, I was told that there is a nail in my tire and that they would not finalize the inspection unless I paid $300 to have it replaced. They also told me that they did not have the tire in stock and that I would need to come back at the end of the day to get my vehicle. I asked to speak to the manager and he told me that the nail in the tire constituted a safety issue as defined by his certification as a state inspector. Interestingly enough, in Subchapter E of the PA State Vehicle Equipment and Inspection Regulations document (Section 175.80e1), there is nothing about a failing an inspection due to a nail in a tire. There are, however, 22 reasons why tires could fail inspection, but the word 'nail' is never mentioned once. Bottom line: When a service advisor is paid commissions on the work performed in their garage and they don't value your patronage, you can expect to pay for unnecessary services. And, hey, most people who can afford a Range Rover or a Jaguar probably don't care enough to question it, which is probably why the behavior exists in the first place. As for my personal situation, I probably would have just paid the $300 if I didn't have to drive to/from the dealership for a third time...but being rung through the ringer for such a trivial thing was unfair. I won't be back. More
