Honest and Honorable On January 16, 2017 I purchased a sweet 2001 Ford Ranger XLT with a low 129000 miles from Ron that was loaded with extras like a 4" lift, custom whee On January 16, 2017 I purchased a sweet 2001 Ford Ranger XLT with a low 129000 miles from Ron that was loaded with extras like a 4" lift, custom wheels & tires, after market touch screen stereo system, tinted windows ect. When I initially saw the truck online I called Ron who assured me the truck was every bit as good as the pictures and was clean inside and out. I had friend drive me from Portland OR, to pick it up in Post Falls. When we arrived at Kootenai Motors (Ron's dealership) we were not disappointed. The Truck was every bit as good as I envisioned it both inside & out and the truck performed perfectly on the test drive so I purchased it on the spot. Ron and his staff got the paper work ready the Truck all gassed up and ready to roll while my friend and I went to have lunch and made the whole experience pleasant, fun and efficient. But here's the part of this whole deal that sets Ron & Kootenai Motors apart from the others. As I was signing the paper that acknowledges that the truck is sold "AS IS" with no expressed or implied warranty, Ron tells me although your buying the used truck with no warranty, if something where to go wrong with it within the first couple of weeks of ownership, give me a call and we"ll see what we can do. We stand by what we sell . Even though this was a nice gestor, I took what he told me with a grain of salt. 2 1/2 to 3 weeks later with less than a 1000 mile put on the truck, the rear differential started to intermittently lock up and after taking it in service found out the pin inside the differential gear pack was tac welded to hide the fact that the gears were chewed up inside and when the Tac welds let go it allowed room for the gear slipping causing the lock up. After assessing the damage, the gear pack, both axles, and pinion shafts had to be replaced at a cost of $2000.I called Ron up skeptically hoping he might help me with this expensive repair but expecting he will reiterate I bought this truck AS IS. To my astounded surprise, Ron agreed to pay for half the repair which he did. He did this even though he had no hand in what the previous owner had done to hide a very serious mechanical problem. He did this even though he ended up losing money on this sale altogether due to the low margin he made on the great sales price we negotiated. He did this because he is an honorable man and his word is importan tto him.I will do business with Ron Ellis again in the future, you can count on it. Thanks Ron for being 1 in 10000. Very Unprofessional about Repairs/Service HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE - VERY UNPROFESSIONAL - VERY DISSATISFIED (skip to bottom for summary) A few weeks ago I bought a 2003 Toyota Tacoma f HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE - VERY UNPROFESSIONAL - VERY DISSATISFIED (skip to bottom for summary) A few weeks ago I bought a 2003 Toyota Tacoma from Kootenai, and the truck is great! The customer service, however, was HORRIBLE. The sale was contingent on the ignition faceplate getting fixed (the plastic panel around the ignition was mysteriously out of place and did not line up correctly) and the service records from the previous owner being received by me. To this date, I have yet to receive the service records as promised, over a month after buying the truck and weeks after they were supposed to be in. I have called numerous times asking for them with no response. Here is the story of the ignition faceplate: I call in a week or so after buying the truck, letting Kootenai know that I was planning to come in and get the faceplate dealt with. They say great, so I head in a few days later. -I get to Kootenai and am immediately approached by the owner, Ron, who acted very unnerved and skeptical as to the promise of getting the faceplate fixed. After making a few phone calls, he reluctantly agrees to get it dealt with. -I take the truck back to the “mechanic”, and he begins literally tearing my dash apart using a crowbar! He obviously did not know what he was doing, and broke many of the plastic dash clips while taking things apart to get a closer look at the problem. -Soon another more informed man shows up and determines that the wrong faceplate was put in, and a new one of a different size is needed. He tells me to come back the next afternoon and he would have it ready to go. -I call the next afternoon to check before heading in, and the mechanic is gone! -The next morning, I show up 10 minutes after Kootenai opens, and the original “mechanic” isn’t there yet. I’m told to wait a few minutes, and they finally show up almost a half hour after the place opens. -Finally the “mechanic” begins working on my truck. However, he cannot get the “new” piece to work. Additionally, this “new” piece came from a junkyard and was in TERRIBLE condition, with tons of scratches and a chunk of plastic literally missing, whereas the piece that had been in my truck previously (the one that supposedly did not fit correctly) looked in near perfect condition. -At this point, I tell the “mechanic” I want my truck back and the original piece back, and I will deal with it on my own. However, they can’t even find the original piece! -Meanwhile, as the original piece is trying to be found, the “mechanic” makes the “new” piece fit, after determining that it was not even supposed to fit. -This whole process takes over an hour, and at this point I am visibly frustrated and angry with the customer service, the “mechanic” who knows nothing, and the poor quality of the repair. As I stand outside waiting for the truck to be finished, Ron tells me to “just relax”. WOW. NOT GOOD. -Eventually the “mechanic” finally finishes with my dash, but then, as he is about to hand me back the keys, he accidentally knocks the ignition faceplate out of place again… and we start the whole process over. -A half hour later (2 HOURS IN TOTAL FOR A JOB THAT SHOULD HAVE TAKEN NO MORE THAN 15 MINUTES), it is finally complete… with the piece that is all beat up and looks horrible in comparison to the rest of the truck. -During the “repair”, the “mechanic” got grease ALL OVER my seat and on the rearview mirror (don’t ask how that happened) and my dash was way more scratched up than it had been to begin with thanks to the crowbar. IN SUMMARY: -horrible customer service -their “mechanic” is useless -very poor communication -extremely unprofessional If you do buy a vehicle from Kootenai, which I do not recommend, at least know that it is in good shape and do not trust them if they promise to repair things after you buy the vehicle.
