They do need to restate how the diagnosis works, however. My understanding was that the diagnosis was $115, and that cost would be applied to the repair. In reality, the charge for a diagnosis is a minimum of one hour, which costs $115. If it takes them less time to find it, any leftover time would not be charged for when they repair. In my case, I got a call that they had expended the hour, and diagnosed a short (sort of knew that when I brought it in), but needed additional time to find and repair. I authorized one additional hour, so the total was $230, plus shop supplies and tax....$256, so quite a bit more than I anticipated from the original description. More
