Note; This review is of the dealership and not my salesman, Alex C. Who was great. I purchased a 2022 KIA Carnival LXS from KIA of Round Rock on 4 SEP 21. My wife was determined to get a new mini- salesman, Alex C. Who was great. I purchased a 2022 KIA Carnival LXS from KIA of Round Rock on 4 SEP 21. My wife was determined to get a new mini-van and the Carnival is one of the best and least expensive currently available. When we visited the dealership, the Carnival I saw online was the last one on the lot. I noticed that some of the other cars on the lot had an additional window sticker with a $3K “Market Adjustment” included which I heard that some dealers were including to get extra profit from a vehicle shortage due to the current shortage of computer chips. However, the Carnival we were interested did not include any such additional window sticker. We took it for a test drive and liked what we saw, so we decided to buy it. But when we got the quote, the price was $5K over MSRP. If my wife had not insisted on a mini-van, I wouldn’t have considered negotiating with this dealership, but keeping the chip shortage in mind and considering that the shortage may continue through 2023, I tried to get a lower price, but wasn’t able to get much more off than the $400 military discount they offered. I bit the bullet and made the deal. Next year I’ll be in the market for a new car myself and I’ll never again give my business to a dealership that marks up their vehicles above MSRP. For now I can’t recommend KIA of Round Rock, it’s a hard pass. UPDATE 10/4/21: Other area dealerships are also taking advantage of their customers with above MSRP Market Adjustments due to the chip shortage. But what I’ve also learned is that if a dealer fails to honor an advertised price, as in they have the original sticker listed as THE price on their website and there are no additional stickers indicating price adjustments on the vehicle (which is what happened to me) then that is a violation of Texas Administrative Code Section 215.250. KXAN has previously reported on another customer who had the same problem with this dealership. I’ve been in contact with the reporter on that story and have found out that there are a lot of complaints against Kia of Round Rock. There is a process for reporting a complaint to the TX DMV, but I’m not allowed to post the link here. More
