On Thursday, January 26, I dropped off my husband's car to be serviced for three recalls from KIA. I ensured my radio was turned off, which I always do when I'm dropping off a vehicle, assuming other peopl to be serviced for three recalls from KIA. I ensured my radio was turned off, which I always do when I'm dropping off a vehicle, assuming other people do not want to listen to my music while working on my car. I picked up my car Friday morning, January 27. Melanie gave me my paperwork since Drew, who initially worked with me, was busy. The process was quick and easy. I was so happy. I called my husband and told him how proficient the people at KIA were. "Man, I'm gonna get me a KIA." I'm singing their praises. I turn on my vehicle. I press the button for the radio, but nothing. I keep pressing the button ... nothing! My radio's not working. I inform one of the KIA's employees, and they tell the mechanics. They take my car back to the garage, and I wait in the showroom. I'm not worried. It must be a slight problem. Melanie Lee comes out and informs me they cannot fix my radio. They do not know what's wrong with it. Their work on the car has nothing to do with the radio. I explained that the radio was working when I brought the vehicle into KIA. She says the mechanic didn't hear my radio playing, so how do they know if it was working? Whhhhaaaaattt?! I call my husband, who informs Melanie to tell them to press the reset button. They've done that, but the radio is still not working. My husband asked if anyone disconnected the battery while working on the car. She didn't know and called the head mechanic, James Barquette, to speak with us. They did not disconnect the battery. My husband says, but you did do some electrical work on our vehicle? He says yes, but their electrical work on our vehicle does not affect our radio. It's a different part of the car. We go back and forth for a while. Melanie pretty much told us we brought in a defective radio and also suggested it may have been a coincidence that our radio stopped working at the same time we had work done on the car. For them to do anything, they would have to do a diagnostic test which we would have to pay for. Why would I allow them to do a diagnostic test on our car? And why should I pay for it? I definitely don't trust them after being accused of bringing in a defective radio, as if we were trying to scam KIA when KIA called in my vehicle for their defects. We had a working radio before we brought it into KIA! I told her I felt disrespected because she accused us of bringing in a bad radio. She said she felt disrespected because we thought they messed up our radio. Not once was an apology offered. There was no acknowledgment that, hey, maybe they made a mistake. We're only human. People make mistakes, except the mechanics at KIA. She did give us the number to file a complaint. When we talked to a KIA representative, she apologized for how we were treated and was disappointed their company was being represented in this way. Unfortunately, there wasn't anything they could do because KIA Autosport Columbus is independently owned. It would be up to them whether they fix the radio or not. Hmmm! Could this be why Melanie was so quick to give us their number? I've never experienced such bad customer service, especially from a General Manager. I close with this: "May the Lord judge between you and me. And may the Lord avenge the wrongs you have done to me, but my hand will not touch you." (1 Samuel 24:12). My husband and I have decided to wash our hands of the situation. We just wanted to warn other people. Please be careful. More
