Barber Ford has always provided excellent service. The service people are polite, professional, prompt, and caring. I have used their service for the past 26 years and have never been disappointed. I was hoping to not regret taking my car to a dealership for service, but my experience reinforces why you should never take your car to a dealership unless your car is still under warranty. I want to clar for service, but my experience reinforces why you should never take your car to a dealership unless your car is still under warranty. I want to clarify up front that the service department people were pleasant and respectful. The work was completed in a timely manner. The work (as far as I can tell) was done correctly. My problem was the price. The dealership charged me retail price ($428.31) for a REMANUFACTURED alternator (p/n FU2Z10V346AERM; which, when searched on the website lists the part as GLV8957RM—info added for clarity), that if ordered directly from FordParts.com would have been $385.48. Moreover, just for fun, a BRAND-NEW alternator (again from FordParts.com p/n GL928((10346)) {results when searching my car year, make & model}) costs $270 (MSRP $300). So, why did they install a remanufactured part instead of the brand-new part? Maybe that's what they had in stock. Maybe that's their business model. All I know, is that I wasn't given the option of whether I wanted a remanufactured part or new OEM part installed. And to be clear, I have no problem with installing remanufactured parts in my vehicle. I've used them before. But given the option of brand new being cheaper, I would have chosen the brand new, cheaper priced part. I want to be clear; I'm not saying the service department didn't do their job. They did. Thank you. Did they milk every penny they possibly could for a routine repair? Yes, you did. I understand you're a business, and without a markup, the business doesn't make a profit. But there's a difference between making a profit and taking advantage of customers. As a consumer I'll take my vehicle to another business that I can trust to get a fair and honest price for their work. More
