BUYER BEWARE: Summary:Paid $38k for used truck at a BUYER BEWARE: Summary: Paid $38k for used truck at a Certified Ford Dealership Dealership refused to fix inoperable running boards, AFTER WE NOTIF BUYER BEWARE: Summary: Paid $38k for used truck at a Certified Ford Dealership Dealership refused to fix inoperable running boards, AFTER WE NOTIFIED THEM THAT WE FOUND PAPERWORK IN THE TRUCK THAT SHOWED ALMOST $10k in bodywork, which they TWICE refused to disclose as required by law Truck has at least 3 exhaust leaks which would make it impossible to have legally received the brand new sticker applied by THE FORD CERTIFIED DEALERSHIP The best part of our interaction with this dealership was our initial communications over the phone on our way to test drive/buy the truck... after that, as a 20+year employee in the hospitality industry, I can honestly say that someone would have to TRY to handle it more unprofessionally on purpose to sink lower than this place. Long story short, save yourself a possible headache such as ours, which included: (1) Being lied to in person by the salesman we’d been talking to earlier on the phone; (2) Being sold a truck for $38k that has a brand new inspection sticker, applied by Key Ford, while also having a colander for an exhaust(with a heat shield rattle) and a broken rear seat latch in the seat that is intended for child safety seats to be placed in, a sunroof that wouldn’t slide back and open, a rear defroster assembly literally hanging behind the broken back seat, unattached to the window, a glovebox that won’t close all the way, and, best of all, power running boards that are locked in the Off position, fully extended out, unable to even be switched into either Auto or On in the control panel. To their credit, they did offer to “lube the sunroof rails”, which wouldn’t have fixed the real problem with them, try reattaching the rear defroster with some sort of kit, when all it needs is new adhesive tape, fix the broken seat latch, “address” the exhaust noises, (which I’ve no doubt would have included the cheapest, quickest fix to make it quiet as the foolish customer drives away, NOT welding them as appropriate)... HOWEVER, the running boards were “a known and obvious defect upon purchase”, so I’m on my own with those. Of course, this being the first time we’ve encountered power running boards, their insinuation is that we’re morons for not sticking our heads out of the window while driving down the road to make sure the running boards retracted... silly us. NOW FOR THE BEST PART: Maine law requires that any damage in excess of $2k to the body or engine be clearly indicated on the window sticker, and that any questions about damage should be answered truthfully, indicating that the salesperson is officially representing the dealership, and therefore the dealership is responsible for anything they say... In this case, the window sticker was clearly marked No Damage in excess of $2k, and when my wife and I asked about the surface blemish on the right rear quarter panel, he clearly stated that that was the only damage to the body AND THAT NO WORK HAS BEEN DONE TO THE BODY... Which brings us to purchasing the truck after the test drive, and the next day discovering that someone left ALL the paperwork associated with the truck in the glovebox, including the Invoice for the almost $10k in bodywork that the dealership paid to have done to it. So, for those of you keeping score at home, we bought a truck from a CERTIFIED FORD DEALERSHIP for $38k, during which at least 3 laws were broken (disclosure, good faith, and illegal sticker) and they REFUSED to fix the running boards (which was all I really needed their help with, because those are expensive for consumers to fix, but cheap for certified dealerships to fix)... EVEN AFTER BEING NOTIFIED OF THE PAPERWORK BEING MISTAKENLY LEFT IN THE VEHICLE!!! Basically, for less than $500 THEIR cost, they could have fixed ALL the discovered issues and had happy (eventually) customers. Instead, they chose to blame us for not checking the running boards out while driving, and are now dealing with the State, BBB and Ford about the illegalities associated with the sale of the truck. I keep saying that I’m shocked that this is the way a Ford Certified Dealership handles things, because the whole point of driving almost 2 hours each way to drive/buy this truck was the fact that it wasn’t at Shady Steve’s Carlapalooza on the side of the road, it was on Route 1 in York Maine... at a Ford dealership. Awesome service! I Dropped my truck off the night before and it was finished before 9:30 AM the next day. Super friendly and helpful staff. Didn’t stand around waiting long to be helped. Some one actually s and it was finished before 9:30 AM the next day. Super friendly and helpful staff. Didn’t stand around waiting long to be helped. Some one actually saw me waiting inline and went out of there way to come to the counter to help me. Not to mention it was a Monday morning. If people are that happy and chipper at 9:45 in the morning on a Monday, yeah those are the people I want working on my car, not the dude who can barely make it in on time and doesn’t want to be there and doesn’t want to hear about your problems. Might actually come back to buy a car here. More
First time at Key Ford since moving to Maine. Got my car inspected, Super quick & decent price! Only complaint is a huge bunch of balloons inside so I had to wait outside. Myself & many others in healthcare inspected, Super quick & decent price! Only complaint is a huge bunch of balloons inside so I had to wait outside. Myself & many others in healthcare are allergic to latex. Latex balloons have a powder which latex particles stick to and become airborne. Can cause respiratory distress/anaphylaxis. Hospitals do not allow latex balloons. Please use MYLAR! Safer for your customers like me! Thank You- Emily M Bryant RN More
