I am writing to report an instance of consumer deception which was perpetrated by the sales team at Kenny Ross Ford South. The tactics used amount to nothing less than a “bait and switch” ruse that is aimed which was perpetrated by the sales team at Kenny Ross Ford South. The tactics used amount to nothing less than a “bait and switch” ruse that is aimed at manipulating the customer with the promise of a lower car price online and over the phone but once they arrive in person forcing them to accept a higher price with the addition of extra features that are not optional. Here is the precise account of what transpired. On May 16, 2022 I found the 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander that is captioned below on the cars.com website. This website is a marketing tool that is used by Kenny Ross Ford South to attract potential car shoppers. As you can see by the screenshot of the email, the price of the vehicle is clearly shown as $17,795.00. I completed a form on the cars.com website expressing interest in learning more about this vehicle. I was contacted via text by JoAnne Kranik from the number 412-520-3108 – you can see a screenshot of the text below. As soon as I begin engaging with JoAnne via text about the car, she immediately called me which struck me as odd because the text message indicated we were going to converse about the car via text. When JoAnne called me I explained to her that I would need Kenny Ross Ford to be a little flexible with the pricing as I was on a very fixed budget. I asked her if I could get the vehicle for less than the listed price of $17,795. She explained that the listed price online generally reflects the best possible price that can be offered and that there is never any pricing reduction offered over the phone or through text and in order to potential get any type of price break on the car, I would need to actually come into the dealership and speak to either Chuck or Gary. When I arrived at the dealership, I ended up speaking to Mike Peacock. Mike was excellent by the way. He showed me the car and demonstrated excellent customer service in making sure I was comfortable throughout the process. It was Mike that I initially requested that I get a break on the price of the car. I was trying to get the price down to $17K. Mike put the deal in front of his boss, Gary Beck who came back to me with an itemized price sheet that showed the price of the vehicle was not $17,795 but was actually $19,692 due to the following: Resist All: $499 Theft Etch: $399 LoJack: $999 I explained to Gary that I did not want these additional items but he explained they could not be removed. I appealed to him that the price of the car on cars.com was $17,795 and that I had been told over the phone that this price was valid. He said that he was aware of the price inconsistency online but that there was nothing Kenny Ross Ford South could do about that mistake in the list price. I tried to appeal to him to see the unfairness of such a business practice but he was firm in his position that there was nothing he could do about the situation. The itemized cost increase for these theft protection features remained added cost to the price of the vehicle. I am requesting that all of the ancillary charges that were not made a part of the online listed price initially be refunded back to me as they were not included in the original listed price of the vehicle online at cars.com. I also would like to say, that outside of this issue, I was thoroughly impressed with the efficiency of how the overall process was conducted. Everyone involved in the sale of my vehicle was courteous and professional. It is my sincere hope that you will refund the cost of these charges so that I can continue to do business with your dealership in the future as well as sing your praises to the world of what a great place Kenny Ross Ford South is to buy a car.
