My salesman Chad was great! I will go back and buy a car from him again. No pressure sales and most importantly he listened to my wants and needs and worked hard to meet them and make me happy. I rate my experience as "average", since it is about what I expected. It’s a new car dealer, pure and simple, and they use many of the regular “tricks of the trade” to increase their profit. That said, I wou I expected. It’s a new car dealer, pure and simple, and they use many of the regular “tricks of the trade” to increase their profit. That said, I would not discourage anyone doing business there, but there is nothing really special about Ken Ganley Kia. On the plus side: (1) I believe my salesperson Mike (sorry, Mike, I don’t know your last name) was genuine, honest, and respectful. He did not pressure me or try to up-sell me. He was open about what he knew, and what he didn’t know. Mike was the most positive aspect of this transaction. If only all car salespeople could be more like Mike! (2) I love the fact that they didn’t put stickers on my car advertising their dealership. Normally, I ask them to keep the stickers off, this time I forgot to mention it. Turns out, they didn’t do it anyway! A big thumbs-up for that, thanks guys! (3) They actually had the inventory they said they had. Inventory is scarce right now, and I made a rather long drive to this dealer. I called to verify if they had the car I was interested in, and it was actually there when I arrived later that day. Nice! On the minus side: (1) They acted as if I needed an appointment to see the car I called about. On the phone I was told to make an appointment with someone named Brittany. When I got there, not many people were even sure who she was. I feel like they wanted me to “make an appointment” to make me feel a bit more obligated about showing up on the lot. (2) Know what your payment will be BEFORE you listen to the sales pitch for add-on warranties and protection/service plans. They will show you the cost of your monthly payment with the warranties before they show you your payment without the additional add-ons. Obviously, this is to hide the price of the extras. Know your payment without any add-ons before negotiating extended warranties and protection plans. (3) Know that the dealer is highly incentivized to sell you the add-on plans. As a case in point, when I declined those plans, I was immediately offered the same plans at about a 50% discount. David claimed that there were "special discounts" they were allowed to give everyday, and since I was the last deal of the day, I could get it. They only told me this after I declined the full price. Also, consider how much profit there must be in selling these plans if they are still quite happy to sell them at such a huge markdown. My advice is to refuse these plans altogether, especially the GAP insurance which you can pick up from your insurance carrier for almost free. (4) When I drove the car off the lot, the tires were inflated to 48 PSI. I checked with 3 pressure gauges, all read 48 PSI on all 4 tires. I checked because the car wasn’t handling properly under acceleration. Proper inflation (noted on the sticker in the door jamb) is 33 PSI. What’s up with that? (5) Ken Ganley has been reaching out to me every week or so since I purchased the car to complete this review. It looks like they want people who purchased cars there to complete reviews, because they are more likely to rate their experience as positive than the people who left without buying a car. That means the sample for these ratings is biased. The people who had negative experiences (and therefore did not buy a car) are not asked to complete the review, and are extremely unlikely to do so. It's an easy way for the dealership to bias the overall rating. More
This is the second time that I use Kia Ganley car service and it was a very nice experience. Everyone was very nice, friendly, and helpful.
