Shawnee Mission Hyundai made our car buying experience outstanding. We live 300 miles from this dealership but made the trip because they had the car we wanted. The experience began when Chris Riekens responded to a chat request initiated by me on their website. I explained what we were looking for and he told me he had a car that met our needs arriving in the next day or two. I left my contact number and he called me the next morning to tell me it was sitting on the truck at the dealership. We then negotiated a price and I gave him our credit card information to hold the car for us, until we could make the journey to purchase it three days later. This was very stressful for my wife and I, as we had a terrible experience with a local dealer the week before. We were very worried that we would have a repeat performance with Shawnee Mission. I have to admire Chris' willingness to deal with my paranoia, which I expressed via email and phone calls. We made the five hour trip and just knew it was going to be a disaster. We figured we would drive five hours to find out that all was not as it seemed. How wrong we were! When we pulled onto the lot, our car was sitting up front and it was beautiful. We had never actually seen a white Sonata SE 2.0t in person, only in pictures. We couldn't believe how wonderful it looked. We went into the showroom and asked for Chris. We were told he was off the lot, but was only a 1/2 mile away, so he would be there shortly. As we waited for him, Michael Ball, the sales manager, came outside and introduced himself. He told us Chris was delayed but he would be glad to answer any questions. He knew we had traveled a long distance and wanted us to be assured all was well. He told us if we ever had any problems getting the car serviced back in our home town, give him a call and he would see what he could do to take care of the situation. Chris arrived shortly thereafter and we took the car for a test drive. We again were extremely cautious and ended up driving it twice and driving a like-model once for comparison. When we were feeling good about our decision we purchased our automobile. Chris helped us sign up for the Blue Link system and walked us through the registration process. He also showed us the owner's manual and all the important information contained in the owner's packet. Patrick Duffer, the business manager then took over for the signing of the contracts, paperwork and to receive payment. He was very polite and patient, as we read every word on each of the forms he gave us to sign. He was able and willing to answer all of our questions. When we were done, Chris walked us out to the car where he demonstrated how to operate the Blue Link system. Just before we drove off, Michael came out and wished us well and thanked us. To our surprise, we even received a thank-you gift mailed to our home a few days later! Chris called us after one week to make sure everything was going well and to see if we had any questions. If the car buying experience was like the one we had at Shawnee Mission Hyundai, people would look forward to the process instead of dreading it. Our only regret is that we live so far away and will not be able to use them to service our car. More
I had a wonderful first car-buying experience at Shawnee Mission Hyundai. I came in excited to drive the Sonata, but also had a list of other cars I wanted to test before making a decision. Henry Frazier was my dealer and he was extremely patient, honest and didn't pressure me to buy a car on the first day I came in. He understood my needs and wanted to make sure he could get me in the nicest car within my budget. Upon leaving that day, he provided me with his business card and said if I decide to choose the Sonata, he would love to work with me in the next step of the process. No emails, no voice mails for the next 4 days (which I loved - no pressure). I called him on the 5th day and told him I had chosen the Sonata and was ready to go through the leasing process with him. He is very popular at SM Hyundai, so he and I played phone tag a lot, but he was always quick to return my calls. On the Saturday I bought my car, they didn't have the color I wanted, but he and I compromised on some other features of the car at a reasonable price, so I drove away that day with a beautiful 2011 Sonata. It has been almost 2 weeks since I've had my car, and Henry is still in contact with me to make sure I'm satisfied and to answer any questions I have. Overall, I had a lovely experience at SM Hyundai and with Henry Frazier. More
I cold called the dealership to inquire about a non-turbo Sonata. I had driven other units and liked what we found. Bob Wright was an excellent salesman. He was not pushy and treated me great despite my not so great credit. Once he knew my siutuation and how much I could afford, he showed me exactly what kind of vehicl and treated me great despite my not so great credit. I had been dealing with CarMax on a 2011 Hyundai. After a run around of almost two weeks, I looked across the highway and like a beacon there was Shawnee Mission Hyundai. I went in and first met with Rebecca who then introduced me to Yvette Anderson. My whole experience was a pleasure. I never imagined buying a car could be easy and fun. By the time I left I had met the whole crew and knew that I could trust each of them. I love, love, love my new 2012 Hyundai Elantra and would recommend Shawnee Mission Hyundai to everyone. More
Our purchasing experience with Scott was nothing short of wonderful the day we purchased our Ford Edge. I definately can't say that I enjoy the car buying experience, but he made it as enjoyable as it could wonderful the day we purchased our Ford Edge. We joked back and forth with him and his manager on getting pricing approvals and negotiations. The day of purchase experience was actually enjoyable! Follow up was a rocky and we had some problems on getting our paperwork to take to get our vehicle licensed and titled. I was very disappointed to have had to pay the $399 admin/paperwork fee and not have had my paperwork in 30 days. Scott did deliver us a dealer plate, which we were thankful for and once we pushed the communcation factor, he was very good about follow up. I would suggest that the dealer is more involved with the follow-up process, instead of assuming everything is smooth and that it will happen on its own. I think the customer would feel more assured if they received updates on the status. For $399, maybe the dealer could follow up until the customer receives everything necessary to "fully" complete the sale. We were promised an auto detail since we purchased the vehicle immediately after trade-in and before it was "show ready". I brought the vehicle back for a scheduled appointment for it and the other 1/2 tank of fuel were promised and was disappointed when I picked it up and more or less only the exterior was washed. I can't say that they even touched the interior and I also didn't get my 1/2 tank of fuel. Rather minor, but a promise should be a promise! Having said that, I would still definately recommend friends and family to work with Scott on their next vehicle purchase! My sister is going to be looking for an Elantra this month and I've already recommended that her and my dad visit with Scott. More
