After getting a price on a new Camry from a Prestige Toyota (NJ) we called Johnstons to match price. Over the phone we were told the bring proof of offer and there would be no problem. Upon arriving at Toyota (NJ) we called Johnstons to match price. Over the phone we were told the bring proof of offer and there would be no problem. Upon arriving at dealership the sales person greeted us, showed us a couple of cars that met our criteria and were EXACTLY the same as the one we were quoted on. Salesperson (who was great) goes into office with our documents (proof of other offer) returns within two minutes and tells us no good, the offer won't be matched. Never offers a counter number and shows us the door. Being irate and thinking about the shabby treatment I returned and asked to speak to whoever negated the deal. Out comes a dude saying he is one of the owners (Bob I think)and tells me theres no way he will match the offer and promises that the quote i had in hand will change when I get to other dealer. I complain they wasted my time he tells me it wasn't a waste of time and that I should continue to the Prestige Toyota who made the original offer. Very arrogant. I leave go to Prestige Toyota and buy the new Camry for $140 less than the original quote from them. Heres where it gets better, I was going to trade in a 2007 Toyota that I had purchased from Johnstons Toyota a year and 1/2 ago. They (Prestige) look up the vin# and low and behold it comes up as a Camry LE 4 cyl. instead of the Camry XLE 6 cyl.that Johnstons said it was. I have the original Certified Used Car window sticker stating the facts as I present them and I have a national data printout verifying that the sticker was a complete deception. As a matter of fact there was a XLE logo/emblem pyisically on the Camry itself. At this point my trade in value dropped significantly and I paid too much for the LE that was supposed to be an XLE. I lost on both ends of this deal if i follow through with the trade. Legal action may be in the horizon. Counsel says it maybe fraud, 6 years to act. Five other Toyotas in the last few years not a problem with the other dealerships. Johnstons is making up for them (sarcasm intended). More

OK about me. My car died in November, I live in Manhattan and looked online for a nice used car of different makes. I went to dealers in Queens, brooklyn, the bronx and Jersey City. It was the same with all and looked online for a nice used car of different makes. I went to dealers in Queens, brooklyn, the bronx and Jersey City. It was the same with all those dealers. Gimmicks, fast talk, high pressure tactics and bait and switch, not to mention those hidden costs like destination charges, paper work, and dealer prep. I was starting to feel very frustrated. Luckily a friend lent me their car, and having passed by Johnstons Toyota for years (I have traveled to the poconos for over 30 years) decided to check the internet for their used inventory, after seeing cars in my price range I decided to stop in. Well I was introduced to Chris and we started looking around (they have a nice inventory), after sitting in many used cars over the last couple of months, I finally found my car. I sat in It, and it just felt right, after the test drive I knew it was to be mine. They let me take the car to my mechanic, then worked through the numbers with me. The price was very close to what I had wanted to spend, they found financing for me, and even handled the transfer of my plates. It was a GREAT experience. People take the trip to Middletown NY. It's alittle over an hour from the city, and hopefully it will be worth your trip too. I know it was worth mine. Good luck! More
