Finance guy (Daniel) added $3549 worth of extras into our contract for a vehicle we purchased. I was the co-signer for the vehicle that my son purchased as his first car. We both looked over the sales cont contract for a vehicle we purchased. I was the co-signer for the vehicle that my son purchased as his first car. We both looked over the sales contract line-for-line and did not see ANY of the add-ons but they were there on the final version we walked away with. Daniel told us we could buy a 48month powertrain warranty for only $250, with only a $100 deductible. When we opened up the stack of paperwork when we got home, it was over $2500!! Daniel also added in a $895 protective treatment for the upholstery and exterior paint that we never talked about and a $159 service that we never talked about. He played the payment game. He showed us an inflated payment price without the warranty (which he later admitted must have been an "accident"). He showed this side-by-side with the monthly payments WITH the warranty. It was only a $5 difference on each monthly payment for 48 months. We had a long discussion because I told him it wasn't possible to warranty a powertrain for less than $250 ($5 payment for 48 months). He said "well, that's how the numbers work out." You would think a guy who has been doing this for 8+ years would understand he's never sold a warranty like this for $250 before. I told Daniel if it is only $250, it is a no brainer and we'll take it. I made it clear the amazingly low price was the only reason we would consider a warranty. Well, it added over $2500 plus interest to our contract! Later, Daniel had no answer for the 10X increase in the cost of the warranty on our contract (which I would SWEAR was never on the copy of the contract I signed), other than it must have been a mistaken payment amount that the with-warranty price was compared to. Daniel is the one who showed us side-by-side payment amounts with and without the warranty! He had no other explanation for the remaining $1000+ in add-ons except "we signed it." That's a lot different than WE WANTED TO BUY IT. All in all, the add-ons increased the selling price of the vehicle by 25%! My son and I both went through the sales contract line by line and asked about any charges we didn't understand. We asked questions about each fee/charge but we never saw the three add-ons totaling $3549 +interest. Honestly, it feels to me like Daniel used the electronic signatures we provided on a touch pad and simply pasted our signatures onto an edited version of the contracts we never saw until we got home. If I can prove that's what happened, it would be a case of FORGERY and Daniel should go to jail. I went back to the dealer the following day and raised absolute xxxx. They brought in a higher manager who agreed to remove the add-ons. We kept the car, the add-ons were removed and I'm still waiting to see if they have pulled any other tricks on us with financing or documentation. More
