I bought my first new car here and overall had a great experience. I am so thankful for the sales specialist, Ryan Hooks, who was incredibly honest, fair, and kind throughout the process; my review would experience. I am so thankful for the sales specialist, Ryan Hooks, who was incredibly honest, fair, and kind throughout the process; my review would have been 1 star without him stepping in. For context, I came into the dealership knowing exactly what I wanted, with information from several sources on the fair market price, current discounts, and my financing options. Even with all of this information, the first sales person I started with gave me an initial price that was ~$10k over the expected price. While I was fully expecting and prepared to negotiate prices, this sales person was not engaging in a good faith discussion; I asked questions to better understand where the number was coming from and why it was so much higher than offers from other sellers. The sales associate proceeded to talk down to me, “explaining” how car sales “really work”. I insisted we discuss the bottom line price (instead of the monthly payments), but they insisted that every single line item was non-negotiable, that all of my research was inaccurate and irrelevant, and that the $4k of dealership ads-ons could not be removed or reduced when I explicitly asked. I was ready to leave the dealership without purchasing anything. The sales associate stepped away to work with another customer and Ryan stepped in to chat with me. We went through the current offer together and I explained my confusion & frustration, and showed him the numbers I was seeing from other dealers. Ryan immediately started fresh with me, starting from the number I was initially expecting. He was incredibly apologetic and even worked with me to get additional discounts to rectify the terrible first experience and time I wasted. I was also impressed with the management’s professional handling of the situation; as soon as they became aware of the situation, the manager removed the other associate from the sale and took immediate disciplinary action. The manager worked with Ryan and offered me a price that was better than what I originally expected to be able to negotiate down to (and ~$8k less than what the first sales person insisted was their “best offer”). All of this is to say, the sales associate will make or break an experience. The first sales associate was an embodiment of all the negative stereotypes about car salespeople, and I would have left without a car and extremely disheartened. Ryan completely turned this around and I ended up leaving with a great deal and feeling super excited about my first new car. On top of that, he even took the time to talk through some of the blatant lies and the different ‘tactics’ the first associate was using, so that I wouldn’t leave my first car buying experience with misinformation and feeling disillusioned. Overall, I am super grateful and impressed with Joe Myer Ford. Even though I started off with a bad experience, the way it was handled really lived up to the positive and trusted reputation of the Joe Myer Ford family. More
