This customer came into the store on Saturday and worked a deal on a 2012 Kia Sorento. There was a trade that wasn’t here so they were offered a “sight unseen” form which provides an opportunity to have some sort of ball park value for the trade. They signed this paper saying the information given is correct understanding that there could be some small differences in the miles and tire wear etc, minor things that would minimally affect the value. On Monday afternoon they came in with the trade and when our sales manager went out to verify that it was in the same condition that was written up on the form. When he looked over the car and sat in the driver seat he noticed the car had not 100,000 miles on it, but 174,000 miles. When we approached the customer with this information and the obvious impact to the value of the trade, they got upset and said basically it’s our fault. We offered them a solution which was to give some money down to compensate for the difference in the assessed value given for the trade. At that point they became extremely upset with this and said they would do the deal but would slander our name to everyone they knew. Hearing this we decided to part ways and not do the deal on the basis of us not being able to come to any terms that would make them a happy customer.
