This note is to warn all car buyers that the unscrupulous bait-and-switch tactic is alive and well at Jim Coleman Toyota. Despite multiple emails and phone calls confirming a quoted price for a RAV4—and a verbal guarantee that there would be no change when I entered the showroom—when I sat down today to write the check, salesperson Larry Pang brought in a manager to explain that the dealership would not honor agreement and wanted to charge $1,000 more than the agreed-to price. Mind you, this occurred even after involving Costco’s car-buying service in the process. And even before I agreed to drive to the dealership to buy the car, I explained that I am a journalist and former consumer affairs reporter who would publicize my experience if the dealership backed out of the deal. Apparently, the Jim Coleman Toyota doesn’t care about negative publicity. Well, I truly hope that word-of-mouth can have an impact to help halt this company’s deceitful practice. If my experience is any indication, a prospective car buyer would be foolish to expect a fair deal from Jim Coleman Toyota. The treatment I received was unethical, dishonest and a waste of my time and gas. More
Jim Coleman Toyota was the only dealership in almost 200 miles with the exact car that I wanted in stock. Despite reading all the reviews here and on other sites, the fact that they were 15 miles from me, miles with the exact car that I wanted in stock. Despite reading all the reviews here and on other sites, the fact that they were 15 miles from me, and I'd never having purchased a car before, I decided to go give them a shot. As one employee explained to us, Toyota apparently heeded some of these recommendations, and had been threatening the dealership due to poor customer service, so there's been new managers brought in and a serious effort to raise the level of customer satisfaction. And I'd say it's paid off. I never saw what it used to be, and I haven't seen anything of the service side of the house to comment on that, but everyone on their sales team was friendly and helpful. Yes, they tried to sell me every possible option under the sun, but accepted my answer when I turned them down. When I said that I had already arranged my own financing, they tried to offer me their lower rates, but again accepted a firm "no thank you". I never felt pushed into something, schmoozed too much, or anything unacceptable. Given their recent push to do better, I'd definitely recommend giving them a chance. More
Never ever allow Steve McClay to offer his 'services' to you. I did an internet search and a nice professional woman called me first. Then Steve McClay called. I made an appointment and headed over to see you. I did an internet search and a nice professional woman called me first. Then Steve McClay called. I made an appointment and headed over to see the car he promised with the quote he'd given. I got lost and went to another dealer in the automall. I tried calling him but when he finally returned my call...I was already back in Bethesda. He offered to send someone to pick me up and I asked to wait until the following day (it was already 8PM at this time). He said he would give me an even better price. Finally I agreed to his ride only under the condition that I would get a ride back and that I was under no obligation to buy since I hadn't had an opportunity to test drive the car. When I arrived I drove the car. It was beautiful but I knew way more than I wanted to spend. True, it was. Over 3 thousand dollars more! By this time it was 11:30PM. He kicked me and my friend out of the dealership and did not give us a ride back to our car as promised. He practically spit in my face, screamed at me and tried intimidation tactics as he stood over me and spoke forcefully in my face. I called a friend and he came and picked us up. I got home at 1:15 in the morning in the cold rain. He is an awful human being, a terribe sales person and he has no ethics or integrity. More
Very straight forward and professional, they made the buying experience fun and enjoyable the way car buying should be. My wife and I bought our 2008 Sienna AWD from Rob Saari and manager Tim Ralston. H buying experience fun and enjoyable the way car buying should be. My wife and I bought our 2008 Sienna AWD from Rob Saari and manager Tim Ralston. Had a bad experience 10 years ago, they have a brand new staff and they have earned a customer for life! I would recommend to anyone looking for a new Toyota to stop make sure they stop at Jim Coleman Toyota and ask for Rob Saari or Tim Ralston. More
I bought a 2008 Toyota Corolla LE here and was given misinformation again and again. The seller, Brian, first told me several times that the car was going to be $14,500, then when we actually sat down, misinformation again and again. The seller, Brian, first told me several times that the car was going to be $14,500, then when we actually sat down, he increased it to $15700. When I told him that he quoted me $14500, he argued that that was not what he said (he doesn't speak English very well). I finally got the car for $15200. The finance guy, Alex, was very unfriendly and charged me for all of these things that weren't supposed to have been charged--a $20 lien fee even though I wasn't financing, a $15 zone permit fee even though I didn't need one, a $25 inspection fee even though a new car inspection sticker is only $10. These guys are all over the place and try to penny pinch you every chance they get. I can't understand the woman who answers the phone--I think she speaks Spanish. Overall, it's a bad experience and I would recommend going elsewhere for better customer service and trustworthiness. I unfortunately bought the car before reading these other reviews and hope to God that once I drive it off the lot, it's ok. More

They did not release the title and did nott transfer the tags. I went back to the dealership to rescind the deal. They were willing to rescind the deal but claimed they could not find my car and as a result I had to end ip by that car at a ridicoulous interrest rate. More
3 Months ago I purchased a Toyota 4runner truck from Jim Coleman’s Toyota in Bethesda. Worst experience ever. They lied to me and said that they were Non Commission (very hard to believe). I went there Coleman’s Toyota in Bethesda. Worst experience ever. They lied to me and said that they were Non Commission (very hard to believe). I went there to inquire on some of their SUV’s and Toyota Trucks available. They were able to trick me into trading in my other car and buy there SUV “A used Toyota 4runner”. Before the transaction, I told them that I was a student and I do not want to be placed in a position that I can’t handle just because you’re trying to make a sale. They promise to work with me and give me the best sale possible. The finance guy told me that I’ll need to put $2000.00 down for Tax, Tags and Title and I told him that it will not be possible because my old car was broken in too a week earlier and my wallet was stolen. The person who stole my wallet went on a spending spree with my bank cards and credit cards; I even show them my police report as a proof. My current bank account was closed and I was waiting on my new checks to arrive. He convince me that it OK to write a void check because all he needs is a confirmation number from STAR and that if the check did not go through, STAR will pay them and come after me. This way I’ll have enough time to pay it off. I agreed to this transaction and wrote the check. He acted like he was calling to get the confirmation number and we proceeded with the paper work. I went home a very happy guy thinking everything worked out fine. Two months later my Temporary Tags given, was about to expire. I called the dealer 7 times within 3 business days to check the status of my regular tags and every time I was told to call later. I was finally able to contact my sales guy Vito. He put me on hold and minutes later he came back on the phone stating that I’ll need to pay the $2000.00 before they can proceed with my transaction. I asked him what ever happened to STAR contacting me about the bill and why is he telling me this now, and how come no one had contacted me on this issue. That when I came to a realization that he tricked me in to doing the transaction this way after the 30 days return period, I had no choice but to pay for the tags. And now I’m left with a Vehicle I can’t even drive and this is my only source driving to work and school. Something has to be done because these dealerships trick customers in buying there vehicle to make a quick buck and Jim Coleman Toyota in Bethesda happens to be one of them. More
I had some repairs done to a door recently...when the car was returned to me, the door frame was scratched up...as I had no pre-visit photos, they denied flat out that the door was scratched there...once I g was returned to me, the door frame was scratched up...as I had no pre-visit photos, they denied flat out that the door was scratched there...once I got home, I realized that 2 wireless headphones had been removed from the car...and of course, they deny that also... So going to Jim coleman Toyota will cost me $125 to replace the phones, plus whatever the touch-up paint costs...never again, trust me. More
Sadly, although we had a good experience with one of the sales guys when trying to buy a car, when it came to service, this place is a disaster. Toyota should consider revoking their franchise. We had a p sales guys when trying to buy a car, when it came to service, this place is a disaster. Toyota should consider revoking their franchise. We had a problem with the stereo in our 2006 RAV4 while under warranty. We were in another state at the time, and the dealer there couldn't fix the problem in time for our travel plans, so he told us to take it to our local Toyota dealer/service dept. when we got back to Maryland. We did, and Jim Coleman service simply disbelieved the written materials provided by the first dealer service dept and told us that, because the problem is intermitent, they wouldn't replace the stereo unit unless we waited until it went out again, and then drove over to their service dept to prove it to them. Ridiculous. Do they think we're lying? Why would anyone want to replace a perfectly good stereo in the first place? We weren't looking for an upgrade, just a unit that works. Calling Toyota customer service didn't do any good either. Bad experience all around. We won't be giving Toyota - or Jim Coleman any business anymore - and suggest you don't either. More
