A couple weeks ago the car I have been driving for nearly 10 years broke down, leaving me without a way to commute to Columbus for work. After looking at a few places I found a car that appeared to be well t 10 years broke down, leaving me without a way to commute to Columbus for work. After looking at a few places I found a car that appeared to be well taken care of at Jeff Wyler. I met with salesperson Chris Cochenour to look at the car. When the car was brought around (after about 20 minutes of waiting, important later), it clearly had a low tire, which we pointed out to Chris. Chris said not to worry about the tire, that the vehicle was still in the “service process” and the tire would be replaced before any sale would happen. Chris did not inflate the tire when we asked to test drive the vehicle. We were asked to not take the vehicle out of the lot and only drive it in the dealership parking lot because of this. Chris insisted that the vehicle was in fantastic condition and was well taken care of. So based on this information I decided to go ahead with the purchase, as I was in a hurry to have a vehicle for my commute. We completed the paperwork process, and the vehicle was taken back to service for a final check before picking it up. I received a call that evening from Chris stating that the vehicle was 100 percent good to go and was ready to pick up. I picked the vehicle up that evening and drove it home. The next time I was able to drive it, 3 days later, was my first commute to Columbus from Lancaster. During that drive I started to suspect that something was not right, but I wasn’t sure because the car was new to me, and I wasn’t sure how it would react while driving. I drove it to work again the next day, and at that point I was sure that there was something very wrong with the transmission. It had begun to shudder while accelerating and was slipping while driving at speed. So, I attempted to contact Chris. I was never able to reach Chris, by either phone or by email. I knew at this point something was very wrong with the transaction. After not hearing back from Chris I contacted the used car Sales Manager Jan Rife via email. This finally prompted a call back from the sales team. I let them know about my concern, that there is something seriously wrong with the vehicle I had JUST purchased from them. I asked if it would be possible to cancel the transaction and bring the vehicle back or get assistance with getting it repaired. Their response to this was “as soon as you drove that car onto Gender Road, it was no longer our problem”. I asked them if there was anything they could do to display good faith to a new customer, since they sold me a vehicle that was not in the condition that they were portraying it to be. His response to that was “Do you remember signing the contract that said this car is sold as-is? That is the only good faith you are going to get” I have never had such a negative experience with a customer facing employee of a business I have interacted with. They flatly refused to take any action to satisfy my complaint. They acted in bad faith in selling me a car that they HAD to know was having issues. And I suspect but cannot confirm that the “low” tire that the car had was in fact a ruse to keep me from completing a full test drive of the vehicle. Obviously in hindsight I should have insisted on the tire being aired up for a full test drive, but at that time I was desperate for a car and did not make a great decision there. But that doesn’t let Jeff Wyler off the hook for presenting a vehicle as being in good condition when it clearly was not. I will never purchase another vehicle from Jeff Wyler, at any of their many locations. And I would highly recommend if you’re looking for a vehicle, do so elsewhere. More
