Outstanding experience No one likes buying a car. It's just generally not a pleasant experience. It's stressful, you hope you're getting a good deal, you can feel unprepared No one likes buying a car. It's just generally not a pleasant experience. It's stressful, you hope you're getting a good deal, you can feel unprepared--a lot of undesirable factors. But buying this car I just bought yesterday was easily the best experience I have had buying a car. The actual purchasing was yesterday, but the overall buying took place over the span of a little over a week. I started with Steve LaFrance, as I had done some internet preparation. I met him briefly when I came in for a test drive, and he set me up an advisor. The advisor I worked with, Sal Aslam, was a perfect match for what I was looking for. He was laid-back (like I tend to be), very knowledgeable for my multiple questions, and low pressure. One of the worst aspects of car-buying is a pressuring salesman, and Sal understands that the environment of purchasing a car has changed a great deal in the last several years. He let me test drive a couple different options, and I decided to go with a hybrid Avalon. The exact car I wanted was not on the lot (and only one was available in around 200 miles). They were willing to obtain this car for me, provided I put down a modest deposit (refundable if I decided I didn't want the car, of course), and we sat down and worked out a deal for the car to already have that in place. I received a good deal for the purchase price, as well as a fair amount for my trade-in. I continued looking at other dealers, including Honda (looking at their hybrid Accord), while waiting a few days for the car to arrive. Every other car I drove on another lot, I drove alone. Some people may prefer that, I suppose. But I had a lot of questions. Sal went with me on my initial test drives, and he answered all of my questions and showed me how everything works (no small feat with the technology on these cars). When I drove the Honda Accord at a Honda dealer, no one was with me to answer any questions. I still have several questions about that car, and I guess I won't get them answered (and now it doesn't matter). When the car I wanted came in, Sal arranged for me to have an extended test drive, keeping it for a couple days at home. This may seem like something minor to some, but it's a huge deal to me. It might actually have finalized my decision. I had a chance to "live" with my potential new car. How does it fit in my garage? What is it like on the roads I drive all the time? Does my wife like it (VERY important!)? Are my kids comfortable in the back? These are things you can't often get in a 20 minute test drive of a random car on the lot. Being able to personalize things already (phone contacts, seat/mirror settings, etc.) is a great selling point. Having that brand new car with me in my regular life made it already feel like my car. And for Sal and the dealership to trust me with an opportunity to evaluate this car over a couple days, it made me feel like this is exactly the place that I wanted to give my business. The actual purchasing part is often the most painful part. But because we had already worked out our deal, it was actually quite easy. Toyota was doing an excellent 0% financing, so there was no point in even looking anywhere else for financing. Sal ran my credit ahead of time, so after doing just minimal paperwork, I was already able to go in and meet with Tyler Stevens in finance. Financing was in place, and I had done my homework ahead of time and had some good offers for the extended warranty, which he was able to match. I even obtained the extended Toyota Care package for car maintenance (discounted, of course) because I actually want to bring my car to this dealership based on the experience I had. In the span of right at one hour from walking in the door that morning, I was finished and had keys to my new car. That can't be said all that often. The people at the dealership are friendly and helpful, the building is very nice, the coffee/soda/food service is a really nice perk--this is just an outstanding dealership. It's run very professionally. And again, I can't say enough about how excellent Sal was throughout the process. As I mentioned at the beginning, I don't like buying cars. I don't want to have to do this again for quite some time. But when I need to, I know where I'm going to start. More
