Excellent experience Saw the cobalt blue Jaguar F-Pace SUV in the lot and fell in love..had narrowed my options down to 5 different SUV's. They scammed me out of over $5000. Account of dealings with Jake Kaplan Land Rover Dealership: It was nearing the end of my lease period with my BMW. BMW of Newport called and asked Account of dealings with Jake Kaplan Land Rover Dealership: It was nearing the end of my lease period with my BMW. BMW of Newport called and asked if I would like to do an early lease turn-in. I met with Milton at BMW of Newport. He said I was over my lease miles by 10,000, however, they would not charge me for the last 3 payments of my lease or the mile overage as well as anything else if I signed on for a new BMW they would roll it in. The following day I met with Lia at Jake Kaplan's. Her title there is Internet Lead Manager. Apparently, no sales people were available to assist me at that time. I explained the deal BMW was offering and showed her where my payments would be. I also showed her the paperwork that BMW had printed for me explaining I would owe nothing to turn in my lease even though I was over my mileage etc. She said they could honor the same deal if I moved forward with purchasing a Range Rover. My friend was with me and can attest to this. Lia also told me that sometimes they will take in the trade and sell these cars on their lot. We test drove a few cars that day and I narrowed it down to two. In the mean- time, she had someone from the dealership look at my BMW. I returned a few days later and ended up working with Sean Gerbert, the Sales Manager. I had a witness that day as well. We test drove both cars again and I ended up choosing one. Sean had me clean out my car, an associate took the plates off of my car and put them on the Range Rover. There was no mention of anything as far as a lease turn-in. They said they would handle everything regarding my BMW. At least two weeks later, Sean called me and said I needed to go to BMW just to sign something. I found that odd and was surprised my BMW was still at Jake Kaplans. I went to Warwick, met with Lia at Jake Kaplan's, and she drove over to BMW with me. A guy named Mike inspected my BMW and said the turn-in would be $4170 (This later ended up being more). I signed off because I believed Range Rover was taking care of the costs of the lease turn in as agreed. Lia told me to send the email that BMW would be sending to me to her so she could forward it to Sean to take care of the bill. Mike was there and heard this conversation. The next day I received a call from Sean saying he can't believe how " BMW screwed me on the turn-in". I then realized that he was expecting me to pay for the turn-in. They basically bait and switched or there was a miscommunication between Sean and Lia. He said he never would cover the overage for the turn-in. They absolutely 100% did say that. Lia said it. Why would she ask me to email Sean the bill if she didn't think they were taking care of it? At no point in this process did Sean ever mention that I would be responsible for the turn-in or costs associated with it. They took possession of my car for weeks. I thought I was done with it. If I was responsible for the turn-in, they should have said that upfront. Why would they keep my car for over two weeks?? Sean did not mention a word about the turn in and my friend can attest to this. I would never have put down $6200 on a used vehicle and then another $5170 for my lease turn-in. Plus my payments are $666.00 per month for a lease. They sent me a check for the last 3 lease payments on my BMW for $741.00. Why wouldn't they just take that off of the price of the Range Rover if I was responsible for the lease turn-in. It makes no sense. They made me think they were giving me the deal BMW gave me and then two weeks later called me to take care of the lease turn-in? Nothing was put in writing including the 3 lease payments they sent me a check for. Total scam. The manager, Mike was no help at all. He basically could have cared less based on his short emails. On top of all of this, as soon as I drove off the lot, the service light went on. The tires do not hold air and the brakes were squealing. They told me the squealing noise was normal. I leased this vehicle in April and apparently the car already needs new tires. They sold it to me with bad tires. I mean it doesn't get much worse. You would think that buying a high end vehicle would mean high end service. Don't buy, lease or service your vehicle here. I just recently found a new place to service my vehicle. Rick at Special Vehicles LTD in Exeter. He has been great. These vehicles are his passion not just a 9-5pm job. He will also help you find a Land Rover to buy. Diane D More
